    Hi guys,
    Does anyone know
    a) the maximum period of time I could stay in the USA for on a j1? I'm in final year so I'd love to come back as late as possible as I won't be returning to college.

    b) the latest I could leave Ireland? Would I be allowed go to the states just until e.g September? I'd love to spend as much time as possible in Ireland during the summer. For example, if I could leave for the X number of months in August or September instead of May that would be great.

I do really want to go over for a bit but I'm just so confused with visas. I really don't know what to do here so any help would be fantastic. Thanks a mil

Looks like if you are using J1 then the last date you would be authorised to work is September 15th and then you can take 30 days to travel so October 15th (give or take) would be the last day.

Have you tried to ring USIT. They will give you all the key information.

You might be better off waiting and applying for a graduate visa for when you complete your course because with that you can spend up to 14 months in the states gaining experience in the field in which you have graduated. In theory you might be able to do both I suppose.
