Currently need a new chain, and probably cassette too. Anybody got one of these chains? I went for a KMC Gold chain last time out and it lasted 2 and half times the length of time I got from Shimano and Sram offerings.

I'm looking at the above because I think it will look the dogs danglies and then looking and doing this for lube, one of the lads I work with did this and his drivetrain always looks fresh and he doesn't clean it

Are there any other chains I'm overlooking? I know these are expensive at around €90 but overall if it lasts the same as the gold one then I've done ok.

As for Cassette, I've found the Sram PG1170 lasted longer than the Shimano offering this time around. The rest of the GS is Ultegra R8050

For 90 quid id probably just buy a heap of of pc1130 chains and get 3 years out of them.

This is the 'good' bike though :o I don't mind spending the few quid on it, I'm off the beer and making lunches etc so I'm ok with the few bob on this

I would take a hard pass on his method of making it, xylene is nasty enough and he spills it a few times. I use it in the lab but I have a fume hood, gloves, eye protection, lab coat etc.If you are going to do this, do it outside in a well ventilated area wearing gloves and eye protection.

i think there's a GCN video on waxing your chain and i don't recall xylene being used.

I went form the KMC Gold to a KMC black & red but next time round went back to the Gold. The black and red faded/wore through to the steel after 600/700 km. The Gold wears but not as much and pretty much holds its apperance to the end.
