Trump has insulted all around him and has made lots of enemies. When the time comes, the GOP will eviscerate him and seek to lay all the blame. It won't be now but when it happens it will be something to behold.

This. He has been the useful tool to ram through various judicial appointments and gut Obama era regulation. The tax bill has been a boon to the rich. The minute the Rep polls swing against him, or indeed is voted out of office, it'll be "Trump who?" from a mass of Red politicians suddenly experiencing a collective Road to Damascus moment.
All future Dem administrations will be able to ask "How can you possibly complain about X when Donald Trump did Y".

14 minutes in and it's been Europe not doing their fair share.

Nothing to defend the president but it's Europe who haven't been doing their fair share.

That was a terrible opening from trumps team. Ah Adam schiff who I'm sure will be front and centre even though his only "crime" is that he's called trump and his allies out on their bull****.

It's not a transcript never mind a full transcript. It says it isn't one on the document.

Did I hear right from the Trump team "Schiff never asked the president"?

    "Dumb as a rock".

Once more this is your periodic reminder that the current president of the United States uses language that technically would have him carded in this very Politics forum. He's literally too childish to quote.

And yet some would tear into the Democrats for childish language.

Inferring she pointed out Bangladesh on the map. When you're a manipulative, lying bulls hitter when there is no one else there to verify what actually happened then you can make up whatever you want. Pompeo was called out and like a chastened bully resorts to pathetic deflection to attack her credibility ie she doesn't even know where Ukraine is.

Any idea what part of the post interview conversation Sec State is saying she allegedly compromised is or is there a link to it [seeing as how Sec State omitted both from his statement]?

Always remember the audience that they're aiming this kind of stuff at. It's not for informed people - it's for those people that Trump "loves".

No. Trump has fairly well blocked witnesses and the worst thing for him would be to take center stage.

He wouldn't last 5 minutes into Dem questioning without giving himself up.

Honestly he would probably be lieing under oath about something pointless in under 2.

His lawyers did well in keeping Trump away from Mueller's questioning. Quite frankly this would be far worse for Trump due to the public nature of it.

Isn't it incredible that those at his rallies, cheering when Trump said "pleading the 5th is for crooks" now believe it is a clever strategy when he doesn't testify

That's rich given the absolute waffle that the democrats feed their base. From repeatedly claiming the POTUS called White Supremacists 'fine people' (even though he condemned them out of hand in the same damn sentence) to saying he called immigrants animals (when he was referring to MS-13) to Schiff's mafiosa reimagining of the Trump-Zelensky call read into the congressional record, to despicably suggest that the POTUS had attempted to bribe President Zelensky into fabricating dirt on a US presidential candidate. So if we apply your standard, that a politician saying/doing something dumb is reflective of just who it is that votes for them, well that don't say much for US liberals these days, with regards to how informed they are, now does it.

Thought yesterday went very well, 24 hours of Schiff lecturing the Senate about how they should get rid of Trump because he might stab them in the back one day, and how Russia will affect 2020 if they don't, and how it was a disgrace for the POTUS to inject fear into republicans by telling them their head would be on a pike if they broke party lines (oh wait, tbf Schiff did say he didn't know if that bit was true, so we'll give him a pass on that one I guess) all destroyed in 2 hours.

From repeatedly claiming the POTUS called White Supremacists 'fine people' (even though he condemned them out of hand in the same damn sentence) - to saying he called immigrants animals (when he was referring to MS-13).

Ist sentence: "EVEN THOUGH he condemned them in the SAME damn sentence" is an admission that POTUS used the words "fine people" referring to the white supremacists in the one sentence. Don't you see the oddity of Don seeing White Supremacists as fine people while condemning them in the same sentence? I can see how a quote White Supremacists are fine people even though they do/did bad things would go down well with his son-in-law and other Republicans.

2nd sentence: it's ok to argue POTUS was referring to MS-13 when he used the word animals in reference to immigrants but Don is an equal opportunity discriminator when he shoots from the lip at foreign nationals and immigrants.

Schiff on Friday quoted the news story that Trump threatened those who may vote against him by putting their head on a pike.

Queue moral outrage from certain senators. Trump never said anything like that.

    https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1221422761597394944?s=19

Sounds like a threat to me.

Does this not rise to the level of libel?

Is corrupt not a specific enough label and is there not a credible enough potential for damage to Schiff?

Depends on the jurisdiction. Very difficult to prove in the US, especially with public figures (Politicians).

As it happens, this was one of the many subjects Trump offered his expertise, during his many public whinges against the unfair media. He posited the softening of libel laws to make it easier to sue publications. Of course nothing (AFAIK) came of it, just another brainfart from the blowhard.

Not too far from what Kings and Emperors used to do with the heads of those who displeased them. Its a good thing that the US distanced itself from being ruled by the like.

The WH were furnished with a copy of the draft, which means they knew what Bolton would say when they blocked him from testifying.

No wonder they want a speedy trial. Every day there is more evidence

Mike Pompeo is keeping his dispute with the NPR reporter Mary Louise Kelly going, using a biblical quote this time. Bloomberg business week TV channel quoted from a Sunday tweet by Sec State Pompeo "whoever conceals hatred with lying lips and spreads slander is a fool". https://www.seattlepi.com/news/article/Pompeo-keeps-NPR-reporter-feud-going-with-pointed-15005575.php

Bloomberg.com/news/articles also has an online release with the exact same headline. I assume the tweet is a deliberate attempt to distract by inventing a non-existing row about truth-telling.

I look forward to all those republican senator and congress members stupid tweets today

How can they defend not calling Bolton now? If they dont they have just hand the Democrats a huge election talking point

    edit

I just read this morning that the White House are trying to get a restraining order on Bolton to stop him talking, this gets more ridiculous

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,343 ✭✭✭EltonJohn69

Trump has confirmed that Bolton is a liar.. so it’s grand.... no need for him to testify :)

Why the restraining order now? They have had weeks for a response and have failed.

At this point I don't see how it isn't worthy of further investigation.

Bolton was originally touted as a potential SOS but, comically, Trump didn't like his moustache. Trump interviewed him for NSA and in line with his policy of having "the very best people" he was appointed. Funny now how Bolton, one of those best people, is framed as a liar just looking to promote his new book with LIES. His smoking gun testimony, which will likely never be heard at the trial, is dangerous for Trump. It might be high time for McConnell to visit the WH and demand a resignation. The play would salvage some reputation for the GOP. Blocking this testimony will cause irreparable damage to the party's already tainted reputation and credibility. If Trump relents and resigns before a vote is taken, they can play it as the Dems hunting their President out of office, a witch hunt etc and get Pence to run in November on that platform or if Trump baulks at resignation, the threat of removing him would linger and the GOP will play it as their guy being unfit for office, them doing their constitutional duty, Trump is gone dolally and must be removed by impeachment hoping it plays well for November with Pence.

Super! Get him under oath to testify, then Trump can do the same - let the people decide.

If Pence was outside the cabal in this Ukrainian plot, that may have been a reasonable tactic. However he's already been implicated so I don't think he'll escape untouched
