Puerto Rico is back in the wars again after its latest disaster. The Trump Admin on 09/01/20 refused to release aid to P/R, on 15/01/20 announced the release of $8 billion of aid to P/R, today when the House passed a bill for $20 Billion+ aid package the White House promised to veto the aid to P/R on the grounds of poor management and weak financial controls. The aid is to assist P/R recover from the 2017 hurricane disaster and the latest disaster, the earthquakes last month. It's also mentioned that the bill arrives in the Senate as a dead letter anyway. Puerto Rico's non-voting congressional delegate, Jenniffer Gonzalez-Colon, a Republican, urged Democrats to look for common ground in hopes of getting agreement on an aid package the White House might accept. The aid is continuing to be a political football with the Admin team kicking it over the deadball line since 2017.

Rick Wilson describes in Running against the Devil how Trump has allowed Mitch McConnell to pick loads of new judges. Rick says that Mitch is very capable, and is president of the Federalist Society, and that the judges he appoints are conservatives.

One thing he said which I didn't fully know is that the GOP will then work with industry, after the judges are appointed, to generate appropriate cases to have heard in the courts with the new judges, to set precedent which is then quite difficult for lawmakers to overturn. Rick says allowing Mitch to appoint judges for another 4 years would be bad.

Rick says lots of things. Some of it is very good.

I'm sure someone will be along to say that technically that's all perfectly acceptable for reasons and it's a pity that the people of Puerto Rico will have to suffer further but that's just the way it is.

Definitely true if you give the electrical grid repair contract to a two person co.

More bad news for the Democrats

    https://edition.cnn.com/2020/02/07/politics/emoluments-lawsuit-trump/index.html

A federal appeals court on Friday dismissed a lawsuit by congressional Democrats alleging President Donald Trump violated the emoluments clause of the Constitution by refusing to allow lawmakers to review and approve his financial interests.

The ruling is a major triumph for the President, who's intensely sought to keep his business affairs in private, just days after the Republican-held Senate voted to acquit him on impeachment charges for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The case's dismissal effectively kneecaps one of several attempts Democrats have made to dig up more information about Trump's business holdings.
You make this sound like a good thing. His constant and blatant violations of emoluments laws etc are a disgrace. If I was an American tax payer I would be livid over this carry on whether the president was republican or a democrat. He is fleecing the taxpayers.

It's worse than just Trump sitting around eating cheeseburgers. He actually feels he's the victim. Apparently he'll be on full on revenge mode now, trying to use official powers to destroy his enemies, and he has a huge list. Trump is clearly very unusual and is very driven.

People say Trump has no shame but I think Trump is easily embarrassed. Is vanity the same thing as shame? Trump wouldn't like to be pictured naked, with his hair a mess and no fake tan if he uses it but is that shame or not?

Has Trump now turned the presidential election into a high school style popularity contest?

Lt Col Vindman escorted from White House, NSC staff appointment there terminated.

He has a case of arrested development, at about the age of 2½.
A man-child whose default mode, if he isn't the centre of attention is to fold his arms and stick out his lower lip, or else to cause a scene like he did at the Superbowl party national anthem.

Someone who has the leaders of other countries breaking up laughing behind his back at major gatherings.

Someone who hasn't an iota of empathy, to the point of being a textbook example of the Malignant Narcissist

What's more shocking is the depth to which the Republicans will sink to cling to power, in order to keep control of the reins, and to let them get on with their primary goals of deregulating business and stacking the judiciary with right wing zealots.

And your point about him having 'no shame' - it's the foundation of his existence - a towering house of cards he has built to try to disguise his feelings of inadequacy.

Tsk. HRC attacking Bernie, says he's promising the moon... Don might like this HRC. It looks like the Dems are scuttling themselves without so much as a GOP finger touching the ship.

HRC should really just f**k right off, her time has past and her contributions are toxic.

Seems like it might have been a mistake to elect a pos to the office of the president of the US.

Gordon sondland is out as EU ambassador according to politico. With the escorting of Lt Col Vindman off the White House grounds it’s clear the people who had the temerity to not bow down to the emperor are being ****ed out.

    Gordon Sondland gone. http://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/07/us/politics/alexander-vindman-gordon-sondland-fired.amp.html

Even some of the senators who acquitted Trump didn't deny that he did it. We are seeing people being removed from government positions for testifying honestly under oath.

Trump regardless of what his addled mind might think he can’t remove any member of Congress.

This must be a shock to the pearl clutches who were horrified at the mere suggestion of retaliation from Trump

Because all the GOP have done since he came into office is show him that he can do whatever he likes and they will cover him. He has been emboldened and will only get worse and worse if he gets in again for the second term. One term you could call an anomaly, two is gonna be very hard to come back from.

It's exactly what he is doing, and soon our resident Trump propaganda posters will explain why he is right to do it.

It doesn't matter they were upholding their the oath they took, they dared to criticise the man who.would be king and therefore need to.go.

In addition to Colonel Vindman, they've also sacked his twin brother apparently.

Sorrry for the quip, but it describes many levels, including toxicity.

I don’t think Bloomberg has much of a chance but if he does indeed spend 2 billion in negative advertising he could do some serious damage to Trump.... and I’m guessing there are going to be some Hollywood accesss tape level tapes/videos that people are holding onto to that will come out during the election... maybe the apprentice behind the scene footage ?

Any cursory examination of authoritarian regimes shows that those who tell the truth get vilified and ostracised or worse. Authoritarian regimes all demand supine "yes men" (and a few "yes" women, Trump has always liked "yes" women in his own way). They depend on purges.

A comparison of the treatment of the whistle blowing doctor in China to anybody who puts their head above the parapet and dares stand up to Trump is quite instructive.

Independent thought is the mortal enemy of the Trump regime. It's no different to the Nazi regime or the Soviet regime or any authoritarian regime in history in that regard.
