The testing and safety can't be shortcircuited. All other elements can be speeded up.

All three of those networks are dire from an Irish point of view.

This is the umpteenth time you've predicted "bodies piling up" on this thread, will ya give it a rest. It reads borderline lustful for some apocalyptic result for the sake of ousting Trump. We're living in uncertain times and there's a great deal we still yet know, not least the exact extent this illness has spread across the US. As disdainful as I am for Trump, I still retain some vague hope he recovers a semblance of empathy and competence, so he can help arrest the situation.

It's not like he would give a crap about the numbers anyway apart from the fact that it affects his chances of reelection.

Talking to friends over there both American and Irish a lot are very worried about getting sick and the costs, not just financial but family and friends being lost.

A lack of supplies for testing and kits is at odds with WH press conferences.

Bill Ackman suggests a 30 day complete global shutdown to 'kill' the virus.

Markets are now below when he came to power, looks like undoing Obamas work also includes the economic recovery.

I had commented to a friend that there are those who will make a tonne of money from Corona, and here's a wealthy investor recommending hobbling the entire country's economy for 30 days. Ha. Vulture funds would have nothing on the feast to be had after the devastation of 30 days closure of everything. He claims capitalism wouldn't survive an 18 month shutdown? Maybe it shouldn't. Not like there the disillusioned aren't making noises that the American way of life ain't fit for purpose anymore.

Apologies if already asked but can they nigh shut down all that crap top down?

From stock markets down as far as banks and rent? Just push pause until a certain date?
I know people (who are they?) are out to make money. But off this?

Our own government just dithering on renters is especially worrying.

Obviously there is a set minimum amount of time it takes between "Injected with test vaccine" and "determined effect". However, there are several methods by which the FDA's approval process can be sped up, including one based off merely the likelihood of effectiveness instead of demonstrated proof.

    https://www.fda.gov/patients/fast-track-breakthrough-therapy-accelerated-approval-priority-review/accelerated-approval

Further, NAID has already said it's allowing some steps to be skipped.
    https://www.livescience.com/first-person-coronavirus-vaccine-clinical-trial.html

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) allowed the new vaccine to be fast-tracked into clinical trials without thorough testing in animal models, which usually stands as a strict prerequisite to human testing.

He is now phrasing it as a "War against the Chinese Flu".

Typical - imagine an enemy, give it a nickname and proceed accordingly. If it's racist, all the better.

Honestly since last week the Chinese government have started denying the outbreak initiated in China and the second it started to look positive Xi went to visit Wuhan and talk to health workers there through a video link. Now in China there is paranoia in the general public towards foreigners who might be spreading the diseases.

I'm going to call it the Chinese Flu from now on because the Chinese have been so quick to go from tail between their legs to growling mode. Truly a country with no shame.

    Its a ****show all round.

The Chinese Government is evil personified and how so many people pat themselves on the back for calling out Trump but silent on China its disgusting.

    Hello the NBA.:)

However the issue with what Trump is doing by constantly calling it the Chinese virus, he is putting Asian people at risk of attacks from moronic thugs on a daily basis.

Calling it the Chinese virus benefits nobody bar culture war geeks.

Its probably a similar feeling for Asian people in America right now as it was for Muslim, Sikhs etc after 9/11.

Not fair they have to deal with the fall out.

Anyhow not as if Trump will do **** with the Chinese government sadly, some snarky tweets, maybe another trade war which he will have to shut down quickly. Heroic.

    This is very worrying

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/18/health/coronavirus-young-people.html

Younger Adults Make Up Big Portion of Coronavirus Hospitalizations in U.S.

American adults of all ages — not just those in their 70s, 80s and 90s — are being seriously sickened by the coronavirus, according to a report on nearly 2,500 of the first recorded cases in the United States.

The report, issued Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, found that — as in other countries — the oldest patients had the greatest likelihood of dying and of being hospitalized. But of the 508 patients known to have been hospitalized, 38 percent were notably younger — between 20 and 54. And nearly half of the 121 patients who were admitted to intensive care units were adults under 65, the C.D.C. reported.

How quickly the past recent past is forgotten. All cable networks are interested in is to get viewers to generate money. It's in Fox news's interests to defend him and MSNBC/CNN's to attack.

You should do yourself a favour and stop watching.

There will be a need for a large trial and subsequent review of results. These aren't fast. One of the best resources around for debunking anti-vax hoo-hah (and other forms of medical voodoo like homeopathy) is a blog called "The Skeptical Raptor." He's now following Coronavirus medical news closely, and has a good piece on what has to happen before a vaccine is approved. He's also looked into the current claims of vaccines in process, the best of them are a ways away.

Since that article, the NIA link you posted said they're skipping using an animal model, so that does move things along some.

The Chinese government won't know or care that you are calling it that, so that's completely ineffectual.

People of Asian origin who you may meet or who live here don't need to be targeted by mouth breathing idiots who take that phrase to the next level.

Be smart. It has a name. Use it.

I don't see what the article has to do with the clickbait leanings of the media. It was written a year ago and she's still in a job.

Tulsi is out and endorses Biden.

Sanders probably waited until she dropped out before considering his announcement!

It's Biden all the way now. 8 years of scandal free presidency vs 4 years of a complete and utter sh1tshow. Fingers crossed Trump gets the utter shellacking that he deserves come the election.

Scandal free? Have you forgotten the mustard suit? As VP Biden needs to answer for his part in that!

Watching the latest Trump Corona Virus task force news conference.

The man is an absolute narcissist, how is no-one in the press corp calling him out on his claiming credit for every "good" action as a personal victory?

Yet he has disavowed all responsibility for anything that goes wrong particularly with regards his CDC and pandemic preparedness team and budget cuts.

He has total control of the optics in these pressers yet still manages to appear as a simpering idiot?
His phonics are improving though ;)

Doesn't this contrast greatly with the message being pumped out by Trump and the Republicans at that time?

Knowing things were much worse and not telling the public jeopardised peoples' lives.

Well he did go to great effort to sound out chloroquine, hydro chloroquine and remdesivir very slowly and carefully ;)

Then he spoke as if he was the one who discovered them!
    Nuts

I'm listening to trump speak now at the White House and he sounds to me surpisingly presidential. Well as presidential as he can compared to how he normally sounds.

I can't believe I'm going to say this but that's not the full quote. He started talking about people sitting in the briefing room too close to each other.
