Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Urgent help needed re: Jury duty (I'm in Australia)

    Can someone advise me on this;

    I’m currently in Australia and a couple of weeks ago I got a letter sent to my Dublin address informing me I had jury duty on Jan 14th

    For some reason the family member who saw the letter only told me about this on Monday just gone! Suffice to say, I’m fuming with them

    The family member’s reasoning was that they’d wait till after Christmas when I could show them current hotel bookings in Australia

    What a load of nonsense!I’ve had a 90 day Australia Visa since November I could have emailed them this in seconds

    Only on Monday did the family member send them the letter explaining I’m not in the country for the 14th. Which they then have to reply to asking for travel docs as proof .... and then she’s sending them airline emails etc

    *all of this needs to be done by snail mail*

    It’s a complete and utter mess and I’m very stressed about 16 thousand kilometers from Dublin

    I’ve tried emailing them, no reply as yet. I asked my brother to call and he got an automated message saying “cancelations by letter only”

    What can I do?

    I’m looking at a court appearance and/or €500 fine when I get back to Dublin in late Feb

    Thanks in advance

    Proof of travel is being sent in? Do nothing so. There is next to zero chance of you being fined.

    From the family member explaining the letter to me;

    Proof isn't sent in on this mail. You first tell them on the form why the person can't make it (in this case; I'm not in the country) and then they snail mail you back asking for proof

    My worry is the deadline. It's 14th of this month (hence me losing it with said family member) and they don't accept phone calls. Just letters and documents in the post

    I've rang up before to inform them that I was living abroad and wouldn't be able to attend Jury Duty

    This was in 2018, just very hard tk get through on the phone to them

    You've started the process in time. The proof is the proof, regardless of a deadline.
    Don't overthink things & give your family member a break, especially as they are doing you a favour.

    People leave the country all the time. Not every one has a relative to open their letters and organise their affairs.

    Don't sweat it. You have proof you were indisposed.
