So we shut down the private sector completely then? Who does this man think pays his wages? Does he expect the State to continue borrowing to pay for him?

Remember the crowd from Oxford talking about having 1m doses ready by September. Always seemed a tad on the optimistic side, that one!

It was a journalist from the Farmers Journal?

We should socialise at home with the people we live with. Christ things are worse than I feared.

I can't think of anything BOC would love more than intervewing Dermot Kennedy. This is what he lives for.

This is pretty shocking from Sam McConkey. Grow a pair of b*lls, Sam, ffs. He is losing credibility by the minute here.

Just heard back on the Mary Wilson show that there was also a weather warning that night, so only essential travel was allowed on that same night also. So they ignored those rules as well.

It was only a red warning in Cork, Galway was an orange one.

Person who was on with Mary Wilson said that it was "essential travel only". Maybe they have it wrong, I'll find the link.

BOC getting all hot and bothered at the thought of Dermot and yer man from Normal People (virtually) hanging out...is this what the Sunday morning slot has come to? (rhetorical question)

I thought he couldnt get any happier talking to Kennedy but when Mescal was brought up he had an out of body experience.

Edit: just said he wants to be in their gang

Regarding the Oxford vaccine, it has every chance of being released quite soon if it proves to save lives at all. It has been produced in the millions already, and is being used in areas of high a COVID activity, eg Brazil. If is a a reasonable bit better than nothing we will have it sooner rather than later as we are in an unprecedented situation. I would ignore the pessimism of McConkey here, and I am by nature a bit of a doom & gloom sort of person. Whilst McConkey has to be fairly circumspect, I think he has not done himself a favour credibility-wise this morning on two counts.

RTE out defending the need for Hogan because of Brexit. Rubbish.

People hear what they want to hear.

The speaker you speak of was the editor of the Farmers Journal.

I thought it was an unexpected contribution. I'm sure there are plenty of farmers who would like to be heard over the terms of deal with Mercosur.

On Fridays Liveline Katie Hannon was egging people on explain their anger and disgust.

Philip Bouchier Hayes was painful covering Playback was explaining how privelage is the cause of all ills.
Pots and kettles didn't come into it.

    What has changed.

Is the Weekend On One found its feet.

The split of the 2 hours to give each half a defined feel, is it wise, does it make the programme into 2 programmes.

On Saturday they seem to have gone off the first half, half hour in depth one on one interview that Marian Finnucane used to do.

To do that would be admitting a mistake. RTE (like any other organisation) makes mistakes. That's okay. The problem is, they never admit it, hold their hands up and correct the mistake. Ray D'Arcy being the prime example.

I never thought I would say this, but I honestly think they should have left Damien in the job as well. It has taken a lot for me to say this, but I'd like to think that I am man enough to admit when I have been wrong RTE have been wrong :D

The wild escapades of David McCullough being chased by a panda on rte news at one...hijacking dobbos twitter account. Catriona Perry and Trump. Again! Absolutely stirring stuff this morning.

It turned into a bit of a cringe at times....due to BOC's direction. They're both pretty likeable, but I find it really hard to listen to Catriona Perry...that accent.

And this interview with an actress just kind of appeared with no real introduction or background.

I've nothing whatsoever against either interviewee there tbh, though I did pick up one of Perrys books and found it very mediocre. I just dont understand the basis for that interview, a guys got a new job, like kind of so what? McCullough came across as exceedingly dull which is probably a good thing in his job, but made it all the more cringe inducing O'Connor trying to make a character out of him.

There must be tons of people out there with good stories to tell on a Saturday morning, but we get rte presenters, something about game of thrones and now it's food. D'Arcy would probably consider this too dumbed down for his weekend tv show!

You’d wonder what planet BOC is on at times

Saying everyone tries to impress each other with yottam otalenghi dinner parties?!

It might have been interesting to hear about his academic background, publishing, career etc. but BOC always wants to veer it towards fluff.

Even Marian had ropey stuff (especially on Saturday), but at least she'd have something decent amongst the nonsense.

Agree with that. I recall Marian getting her own fair share of criticism at times, but while not every week, she did often have some really good interviews on a saturday and which occasionally were agenda setting. You cant expect that every week but even one or two every couple of months can carry you a long way imo.

The traditional "kill a half an hour on food" item.

Actually I thought it wasn't your usual food item.

I learnt a few things and there was some depth to the interview.

It’s more of RTÉ interviewing RTÉ and they thinking the rest of the world is riveted by it.

And as for them moving around from one job to another, is it really earth shattering news that a newsreader is going to read the news at 9oc instead of 6oc (or vice versa)?

It’s only reading the news for gods sake. It’s not up there with finding a Covid vaccine that works.

Lookit, Ballsy made a pigs ear out of the Perry McCullagh ‘interview’.

    Load of rubbish.

Hope McCullagh stops looking up under his eyebrows, terrible look.

    Perry..... that accent......

    Nah pal, no way

It's sort of how the media game is played.

    One element promotes the other.

They don't want you to be riveted they just want you to tune in.

    They are not news readers.

The arrogance of the panel this morning is something else. People need to understand that some jobs just aren't viable and we will have to have a reset which will be painful? So all the poorest working class in society lose their jobs, but this is just something they have to accept. Well maybe we need to start shutting down some overheads, like RTE and many of the universities. Throw Brendan O'Connor and Gary Murphy out of their jobs and see how they accept it.

Interesting stuff from Mary. 30 grand a year, less than 200 quid a week from her live shows. And she's not complaining, just telling it like it is. Spotify is a disgrace.

She was only on the other day, on that Des Cahill evening show, so was kind of thinking not again at the start, but it was a good listen. Good insight into the struggles facing even successful artists in todays climate, i thought.
