Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It will be very interesting how the Irish Times spins it when eventually someone from a minority comes forward and says that there was known predation, drug dealing, child and domestic abuse and misogyny in large families - and that Irish Times Social Affairs social correspondent Kitty Holland ( and relative of someone at said newspaper) knew all about it and said nothing!

Eh..... what’s that all about dude....

Do you expect presenters on NPR to be tools who rock the boat.

    Regulations pal, regulations.

    Regulations?

They don’t mind promoting their own side projects or being politically biased when it suits them

I think RTE need to start to take a bit of responsibility for the guests they have on their shows, non medical people who are allowed to give their opinions on medical issues. Well, as long as what they are saying is pro vaccine of course. Looks like you're wrong again, Dr Jim.

Jim Power on Brendan O'Connor 07/02/2021
"People who get the vaccine regardless of which vaccine it is .... that it reduces hospitalization, reduces serious illness, absolutely dramatically, up to 100%. So, given the whole motive behind what we are trying to do here - reducing hospitalizations taking pressure off the front line system. These vaccines actually succeed in doing that, so I have to say I was amazed, I'm certainly not a medic okay, but I was amazed when the decision was taken here Thursday night NOT to give the AstraZeneca vaccine to the over 70s."

"The administration of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine has been temporarily suspended following concern over blood clots. Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly said the decision was made on foot of a recommendation from the National Immunisation Advisory Committee."

    MOD
Please take great care when discussing the subject of minorities etc as we are under obligation on this forum not to attribute, even through innuendo, societal negatives to groups of people. By all means we can fully acknowledge anti-socialism in society but not point to any particular groups of people as being responsible. The very existence of the forum may be under scrutiny and I advise posters to take this seriously.

"Anti Vaxxers will have a 'field day' with the news of the AZ vaccine being pulled" says Brendan. Instead of maybe acknowledging that anybody who said that the vaccines were rushed might have actually had a point and that RTE may have been wrong to tell everybody to "take any vaccine, they are all safe, they are all effective".

Stefanie Preissner on again, defending the Government today.
She must be looking to get on the FF or FG ticket when you start defending this shambles of a government.

"we can't ignore the 1000 people that have died". How many of those died from COVID alone???

Has anybody noticed the two sets of rules in place, different burdens of proof:
Old person, with many underlying conditions, dies with COVID - cause of death = COVID
Old person, with many underlying conditions, dies after vaccine - cause of death = The person had multiple underlying conditions, DEFINITELY not anything to do with the vaccine. Any connection to the vaccine must be proven.

I heard a doctor on UK radio around last summer time, asked if you died in a car crash but had tested positive in the last 30 days, would you be classed as a Covid death.

    He said yes.

That says a lot about the "Covid Death figures" for me.

I think that might have also been asked in the Health Oireachtas Committee and the answer was the same.

Sam McConkey is one of the experts I always find quite negative, especially recalling when he once suggested we would be in lockdown for 10 years. But I do agree with him on getting the government to eat up their game on contact tracing, investigating exactly how & where it's spreading, and seriously assisting businesses in a very practical way to make their operations viable in Covid.

So all the would be male rapists should not walk behind women, not stare at them etc. - righty.

We as men should sit around and discuss that we shouldn’t rape women

    "Don't walk behind a woman".

I am trying to figure out how to walk then. If I go out for my daily walk and there is a woman in front of me, do I give up and go home?

They are creating a culture of fear, and people are worrying about something that is VERY unlikely to happen to you as an individual. Because some woman was murdered in England, they are now trying to tell all women that they are going to be the victim of a crime.

And in breaking news, drive carefully next time you're out, as you might be in a crash and die.

Crossing the road to make women feel safe when you are out for a walk.

I honestly believe these guys are so afraid of saying the wrong thing and being cancelled, that they go along with it and play along. I think if you spoke to many of them off the record they would have different views.

But if you have a cushy job at RTe, are you going to rock the boat and potentially lose your big pay day?
BOC is on a quarter of a mill every year for this.

Brendan and D'Arcy will probably start taking the knee when the meet women on the street from now on.

This s*it is just getting worse by the day, something to be outraged about now on a daily basis, but I think a lot of it is discussed as a smokescreen to take away the focus of the main stories of the day.

So it was great a male stranger came to help her, despite us being told to stay away from vulnerable women in public, and not to even walk behind them.

There is a simple solution to that, if a woman is uncomfortable with a man following behind her,

Why doesn't the woman cross to the other side of the road.

    See problem solved.

That's ok if it is a road with a footpath opposite side. To access my estate from the LUAS necessitates walking along a very narrow path which is sandwiched between the LUAS track itself and a very high fence on the other side. Path not visible from any road or house for a good section of the way. Always somewhat uncomfortable on it at night, why I tend to get taxis at later times.

Very much doubt that. Sounds like something you'd read among conspiracy theorists on Facebook.

Hospitals are funded out of health budget, it's not like they get extra money at the end of the month after tallying up their deaths.

I have close relatives who are GPs. I will ask tomorrow (too late now tonight, plus I’m in bed) but I haven’t heard anything of the sort. And that would most likely have come out before now.
