Bought tickets last week for march. No difference in the price of them before the "sale"

Looked at booking flights to NY before the Christmas for sometime in May. Looked again during their sale and there was very little in the difference.

Like that, heading off to USA in may, absolutely no price difference at all.

You can set price alerts on Google and Kayak for flights. Google shows you the average price changed for the flight. The thing with airlines is that they use dynamic pricing and release seats in blocks, so you can get the same flight for different prices depending on the amount of seats left in the block being sold. Airlines also know that people who book far in advance will pay more as they will have other big ticket items booked, IIRC the best time to book flights is a few months before departure

I’ve been booking flights to Majorca with AL for years. They typically release seats approx 10 mths before departure. I book as soon as they go live and have never seen them cheaper at any point before I travel.

Planes have a set number of seats. Once a certain amount are sold, prices change, then when another amount sell, price changes again and so on.

If a certain level are not sold xx days/weeks before a flight prices can drop.

If a large number of people look at specific dates, prices can change too.

There's no physical person doing this, it's an algorithm and all automatic.

If they announce a sale, there may be just 2 or 3 seats left at a specific price and once they are taken, price point moves.

If a major sports event is announced, the same applies. The cheaper seats are sold in seconds then the media start complaining claiming price gouging when is as simple as tickets being sold.

Funny, the same media will charge 100% more for an advert on Friday or Saturday than an advert on Tuesday
