I'll be in Dublin tomorrow, where do I go for my free meal? Why pay for it when I can get it for free... more money left for drinking that way.

I'll be wearing a shirt and slacks, but they don't turn anyone away, right?

MQI for lunch , okay you need to be tough for that one, Brother Luke's for Dinner , however and I've mentioned this one before and if you've the balls ,go into the staff canteens in the Four Courts for a subsidised meal. You probably need to have a smart dressed young one with you and need to look the part.

    Terrible viewpoint.
Food poverty is a real thing.

Britain is in a worse position than we are, but what a terrible way of poor shaming, just because there are chancers out there

It's not even clever or novel.

Theres 3 or 4 dinner centres around dublin,
its not free , a large dinner is 2 or 3 euro.and you have to have the time to get there .
i can go to a chipper and get a 12 inch pizza for 5 euro.
The soup kitchens on the street are free .grafton st, or outside the gpo at 8pm
Some single people just go to a local dinner centre because its cheap,
not because they are homeless .
and they are not good at cooking .

You will be made very welcome in the name of hospitality; why the bitterness and cynicism?

Please do so and see the folk who attend and the folk who give their time to work there, .

NB the food is all donated,

I recall a number of years ago seeing a thin. pale and obviously undernourished young father buying a small tin of beans, a packet of thinly sliced processed ham, and a packet of "Johnny Blue" in the local Centra. He was under the influence of some substance and his child was with him. You'd feel like saying "Why don't you take a walk down to Meath St.and spend your money on a chicken and a few fresh vegetables, the way generations of Dubs before you did". But sadly, it's a different world now. To take that line would be very patronizing. We need to start with children at Primary school level if we want to turn things around.

Homeless should eat in Dealz to remain healthy - bread, malt loaf, nuts, dried fruit, bottled water, vitamin tablets, only €1.50 each.

    Calories Per Dollar List:
    https://efficiencyiseverything.com/calorie-per-dollar-list/
The most inexpensive fast food item is almost 2 times more expensive than eating at home

In general, processed foods(ones that are usually boxed, and have a ton of ingredients) are more expensive than their homemade alternative.

    Canned food is very expensive.

    Most ‘Junk Food’ is expensive

Processed food is hugely more expensive than buying fresh vegetables.

Yes but you need somewhere to prepare fresh vegetables. If you're living in a hotel room, or you're on the street its a lot more difficult to prepare and store fresh fruit and vegetables.

I find it hard to believe anyone can't afford food in Ireland tbh.

Food is free drink costs money. It's about being smart with your money.

It is also a great comfort occasionally to eat something you have not cooked if you are eg old and alone.

To have a lovely hot meal someone else had prepared and cooked

Before I became islandbound and all but housebound, I went once a month to the Lunch Club at the Meals on Wheels place in the town I shopped in. Loved it!

We cannot afford to eat out. I miss it.

These days my Sunday lunch is a Supervalu Ready Meal! Same idea for E4
