This could get quite serious for Mary Butler

It is kinda stupid though. You can make a emoji like that by accident. Some people might not even think its sarcastic.

Mary Butler could be in a serious bit of bother here. I don’t think she’s getting very good advice on all of this. If stuff from the recent past gets dug up and brought to light about social media activity around the time of the 8th amendment vote she’s in a world of shît.

and RTE covered it as well

Could that mean consequences for her aside from a drubbing at the ballot box next time?

People have short memories, next time elections come around they'll vote for her. Just like this time.

How did the Cullinane video get leaked? The video kinda looked like it was filmed from one phone looking at another.

The whole speech was up on his Facebook page on Sunday night.

Amen, Waterford always has at least one bulletproof candidate who can do (or not do) whatever they like. I suspect Butler would get in if she was filmed eating foetus's, never mind making less than diplomatic comments around the 8th amendment.

Still though, it would be interesting if Mary Lou called FG/FF's bluff and went for a re-election to see what the impact would be on Butler. And Cullinane for that matter. Both would get in still, but it would be interesting to see the effect on their vote.

and FG would run one candidate this time!

    Can that be proven?

Surely the ISP of where the laughing emoji was sent from would solve all this?

I dont know how easy it would be to obtain from facebook. But if they could get it they could possibly prove if she did or didnt send it?

I can't see where he says that.

Damien Tiernan was at the funeral of the RTE journalist that died last week today.

I know it seems convenient that Maria McCann got wheeled in to do a "generic" topic show this morning but in fairness that's clearly not the case and maybe it was for the best to leave the dust settle.

    We shall see tomorrow.

    By-election for two anybody ?

Mary Butler post is being discussed on DT now.

Cullinane has joined the Sinn Fein negotiating team to form a new Government. Maybe he's in the clear to hopefully get a Cabinet seat.

Not sure it was going to affect his ministerial potential, one way or the other.
A few days on the naughty step while it all now over.

That was well flagged. He will lose his seat next time as a consequence

He should lose it as soon as he changes party. If you're not who the electorate voted in, you should relinquish your seat and take your chances in a by-election.

i'd call bull**** on it for the moment but it will happen at some stage. we could be facing into another GE within the next 3-6 months so i don't think he will move unless a government is formed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,114 ✭✭✭noby

Yeah, I'd be surprised if he moves so early. No need to do anything for now, see how it all pans out.

He might need those independent posters again soon!

Edit: unless he switches before another quick election to be guaranteed the FG ticket.

With both ff and fg unwilling to do the deed with sf, we could be heading back to the ballot boxes

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,172 ✭✭✭hardybuck

Or my initial prediction of a FF-Green coalition underpinned by a performance and supply arrangement from FG.

Rationale is that Fianna Fail (and definitely Micheál Martin) want to be in Government and are the biggest party in terms of seats. Micheal doesn't want to be the only FF leader in history not to be Taoiseach. They could say that the country needs to form a Government ahead of crucial Brexit talks, and they're the only party that can keep the economy moving in the right direction while addressing some of the things that FG struggled with.

The Greens can say similar, and they want to be in Government as soon as possible in order to influence policies which aim to prevent climate catastrophe. FG say that they're the party that founded the State, and will do what's in the best interests of the State, including putting aside past differences with FF.

The risks of this approach is that they all annoy the electorate, and FF might be nervous about being in power when another recession happens.

    Looks like it.
RTÉ saying that FF have decided not to go into Govt with SF.
