  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 5,123 Mod ✭✭✭✭kadman

All of the mechanicals got a rebuild as well.
Including all the components of the front beam.

All steering, suspension and brake components. New bearings, seals
caliper rebuild ect, ect. No worn or damaged component was used at all.

If in doubt fek it out.

Body back on and driving, just have to add wings, doors, front
and back boot and interior. All the donkey work is done, and body shell sprayed.

I was rolling along with this nicely until something came along and interrupted progress.

If in doubt, fek it out.......... Way To GO !!!! Looking forward to seeing the finished product.:)

This was the interruption, this is what fell into my lap,
co a family member who wanted shot of his project.

Came to me completely disassembled, but sprayed. So spent a couple
    of weeks reassembling. Nice break.

Yes, it's a very clean looking one,,,big bumper's, spot lights, and of course the wheels and white wall tyre's. Is the interior and engine bay as good?

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 5,123 Mod ✭✭✭✭kadman

    Engine bay is good

Working on making new leather seat covers at the moment. Sewing piping into
seat material , and forming a suitable two tone pattern

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 5,123 Mod ✭✭✭✭kadman

All the interior trimmings, probably 5-6 weeks to do.

Are you going to make the seat covering yourself?

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 5,123 Mod ✭✭✭✭kadman

Oh yes. I am half way through pattern making the drivers seat from white leather.

Once the pattern is checked, I will cut and sew the two tone leather seat covers. I have an industrial machine, So the upholstery will be no problem.

You are a man of many talent's, for sure !!! LOL :o:o:o Were the bearing's in the transmission OK?

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 5,123 Mod ✭✭✭✭kadman

Transmission is perfect, well tried and tested. Did about 3000 miles before the resto was done.

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 5,123 Mod ✭✭✭✭kadman

Engines are not a problem either, as i rebuilt this fasty engine, which did not take a lot.

    Its a 1641cc.

Just polished and ported heads, new exhaust valves, balanced pistons new exhaust,
new rings, crosshatch honed pots, and of course replacement case saver .

    Anyway I have 7 or 8 engines, mostly beetles, 1 early 65, rest a mixture of 1200 and 1600.

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 5,123 Mod ✭✭✭✭kadman

Engine barrels needed crosshatch honing to prep the for proper
ring seating for the new rings,

    Before,

After showing a nice crosshatch pattern.

Perfect set of 1641cc pistons and barrels and 2 perfect heads allowed me
to rebuild a nice strong engine.

And then there were all the fiddly bits attached to
brake parts that cannot be replaced but require making...aarrrgghh.

Brake adjuster wheels and locking tabs.

Decided my beetle needed a bit of an interior facelift. So I decided to make myself a new set of leather seat covers.

First off I made a new seat back template, in half. Placed on the centerline of the back material, I could then flip it to ensure perfect symmetry,

    [IMG][/img]SFYqV3J.jpg

    Other half,

    [IMG][/img]3WYSUpN.jpg

Same procedure with the seat base,

    [IMG][/img]MM5Gi4z.jpg

    Other half.

    eKTdpDk.jpg

Piping added, and back on to seat back,

    [IMG][/img]4FPN37R.jpg

Piping added to seat , and completed,

    [IMG][/img]qJRysJ2.jpg

    And finally, mockup.

Good industrial sewing machine takes the hardship out of sewing leather.
And making up the proper template, does the job. Plus the fact that leather seat covers are rip off prices:D:D:D
