I met her once in Knocklyon and she was fierce crotchety. Some years later I was in a hotel and asked Marty Whelan for directions to the toilet and he couldn't have been nicer. There's good and bad everywhere.

A story to tell whenever Marty passes.

on BBC radio the producer seems to have a lot of power, if Joe started a show like that on
BBC 4 or 5, he'd get an earful

That's me. I've it set to record on the satellite box. Herself is watching a film ATM. When it's over I'll transfer it to the laptop and isolate that bit.

Joe is multi-cultural in this orientation and outlook, so this doesn't surprise me.

    Are there pictures?

    Thanks

Yes, asking a caller from Limerick “is dat yer real voyis?” (and giggling as he asked this question) indicates a lack of prejudice, inherent bias, and stereotyping alright.

Will he be in, or on Tuesday for that matter?

It is not a question of whether he will retire or not. His amazing legacy is secured and he can retire when we wants. He will go on his own terms.

Personally, I hope he never retires.

That’s very mild compared to what could be written about him to speak.

Recorded but missed the first minute.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,420 ✭✭✭✭sligojoek

I've isolated the first 5 mins. It's in TS format. Just need to extract the audio to mp3 and can upload to google drive. I didn't hear it on the wireless at the time but while the first caller is talking, joe thinks his mic is on mute and can be heard saying "Hello Joseph can you hear me?" . Then asks caller to repeat and goes on to try and talk to Joseph, so to speak, while totally not listening to the first caller. Then cuts to the jingle and a break.
