(1)SO why not make it ILLEGAL for anyone to have in their possession any chemical or physical item that can cause injury to another person.
(2)POLICE the law properly
(3)Hand out MEANINGFUL prison sentences
(4)RELEASE anyone in prison that is not a danger to society
(5) re no (4) above give them a choice re restribution for crime committed - financial ,community/ voluntary work ,’ chain gang’ work , attending courses etc, etc, etc ,etc. restrictions would apply. Eg cannot drive, report to garda station/PC every day

Great valid suggestions, but this is Ireland ,we have laws but not adhered to,have a judicial system that's broken,greedy solicitors,inept police force,and CAB who only react,instead of being pro active,country full of snowflake do gooders etc etc,we as a nation are really in trouble

A new born baby is being influenced from day one and what road it will follow TOTALLY depends on ALL of the influences it is subjected to in its life BUT ESPECIALLY in its EARLY life. One could safely say that by the time the child is 4 or 5 yo that the road they are going to go along has been substantially ‘paved’ for them.
All gov constantly REACT to knifing , gang warfare, anti- social behavior. And IMO the educational / social projects it funds in disadvantaged areas have very incomplete strategies with some core objectives missing.

What about this as a PILOT project. (Three part strategy)
(1)Identify one national school.
(2)It is got across to each student in each class that nobody is better than anybody else as a person. We are all equal in Gods eyes. Everybody has a right to be respected for what they are. Re going forward, the truck driver is doing his job as might a doctor do his work and each should respect the other and not look’ up ‘or ‘down’. Each job is legitimate and contributing to the economy/society in their own way. Each class member should be ‘trained ‘ to be happy for whatever his/her fellow students want to do/become and support same by some supportive words.
(3) a specific annual report in drawn up for each student and will refer to the child’s interests - hobbies, sport, reading , art etc,-educational strengths and weaknesses , note what they really like/ are good at and any other relevant information that needs some attention.
For example a child might be good at soccer but the school cannot provide sufficient time for the child to blossom. He might be week at sums but likes/ good at Irish. Might like stamp collecting. Might like reading.
The plan would then be to organize the support around what the child is interested in so that their specific interests and especially acedemic weaknesses are followed up. Addressing social skills can be part of the plan. The school curriculum can address some of the actions required for each child but local clubs, institutions individuals , parents relatives , friends can also be involved in responding to the solutions required. Eg soccer trainer in a local club might be asked to organis e transport for three of the students who are good/like soccer and keep ‘a special eye ‘on them

SO when each child finally leaves that school they have all a basic respect for each other. For example, the fellow who excels at soccer , hurling and is not very bright academically is praised for his skills by the very ‘bright ‘ student and visas versa. Each position is equally valid. ALSO each student is leaving vita some interest , skill , hobby , qualification that they feel that they ‘own’, they are happy with and that they have achieved something.
OTHERWISE a lot of these kids will leave with a lot of their potential unfulfilled, aimless, very frustrated, and basically left very much behind . They ARE RIPE to enter the DRUGS FRATERNITY

I think we need to stop blaming this on the coke. Plenty of people use it with no problem. I don't see anyone blaming things on the couple of cans these lads probably had to get there bravado up.

Point of the matter should be these scrotes getting locked up. We could sit here debating drug use all day, which is exactly what the government want. Our real anger should be directed towards both these scumbags, and the complete and utter failure of a justice system and law enforcement that this country has
