Well they'll have to at least consider it.

This is among the best, if not the actual best, SF have ever done in a GE. To get this much support while only challenging just over a quarter of the available seats a was a seriously missed opportunity and i'm sure examination of the election will highlight that to the SF campaign staff at a later date. However they cannot be taken seriously as a political party (SF) if they are not prepared to discuss the possibility of a coalition Government.

To use a vaguely relevant analogy, it'd be the dog who caught the car then let it go. Why contest this seats and put forward a manifesto and seek a position of power when they knew from the off that even if they won all seats they still could form a majority Government.

IOW a coalition was always the game plan for SF. With FF it could be a two party minority Government, with perhaps a couple of Ind. to get them over the majority line.

On a selfish note i wonder what its going to mean for us shooters ? We have seen their attitude to hunting and to gun ownership already. Will they push through with it though ?

Mary lou is on the news, saying she wants a government without ff or fg in it, pbp, the greens etc are her first choice.

We won't be a blip on their radar fro some time, if at all (assuming they actually make it into Government) so i won't worry about what ifs. With FF and FG we knew their positions and what they intended. SF will be a new animal.
Mary lou is on the news, saying she wants a government without ff or fg in it, pbp, the greens etc are her first choice.
She also said she made a huge mistake not running more candidates or at the very least a running mate in her own.

42 seat contested and i believe 42 were won. They could have easily won an additional 15 seats and possible much more. Meaning their overall share could have been in the high thirty percent margin. They'd be in a much stronger position with say 55 to 60 seats to form a Government of their choosing.

As for her comments on FF/FG coalition, she is hardly going to announce they are immediately looking for FF or FG to join her in a coalition Government. She cannot seem too anxious and its a publicity game now as to who flinches first and makes the first move/approach.

When all the votes are counted it'll still be a long road to when we see a Government.

Biggest breakthrough for SF vote in the republic, perhaps since the first Dail.

Young people and those under 34 voted heavily for them. Too young to remember the Troubles.

We'll see the iron fist under the velvet glove if they go into government.

Mehole was just on TV softening FF's position on possible coalition with SF. Says there needs to be some policy alignment, well, they're both open borders SJW's for a start...

    .
Whats the excuse for voting Simple Simon back? Wasn't allowed out on the campaign trail, done no interviews, nothing, and still gets elected back in with:
    • A hospital that is going down as a the 18th most expensive building in HISTORY
    • Waiting lists of over 100,000,
    • Hundreds on trollies each week
    • The CERVICAL SMEAR SCANDAL where 19 women have DIED already
    • Medical cards taken from cancer patients and those with disabilities
    • Nurses threatened with fines for going on strike
To name just a few of his greatest hits.

It will...You vote Socialism in,you have to shoot your way out.
As for Mr Mehole Martin if you look in a dictionary for the word "whore"and "hypocrite ",you will find a picture of him and a sub note "see fianna fail party"
If there is ANY person with any sort of intergity in that party,if he does go into bed with Mary Lou,there should be mass resignations from FF.
    I wont hold my breath...

My predictions...Invest in Wavin piping and end caps, and taking up boating is a very strong possibility our futures for CF owners.

I've been trying to work out what will happen at the end of 2020, with SF in some kind of coalition when Brexit bites.

Specifically, what happens to the border and what would SF's position be?

I would be more worried what the management in the American multinationals are thinking to be honest. The ones who invest billions here and supply high paying jobs for skilled people. Being screwed for tax to pay for leftie day dreams is hardly likely to encourage them to invest anymore here.

So your more worried about the huge american companies having to pay tax than the people of the north of Ireland having equal rights and being part of a united ireland.

The Irish US Dems with their plastic paddy routine will have their work cut out for them convincing multi nationals to keep investing in the Auld sod once it turns a fourty shades of Reddish Green.:)

Plus, there is now a country next door, unfetterd by the EU dictatorship, that is a US ally, and in line for perferential trade treatment from and with the US,and open for busisness too.:(

I was reading that the Germans, who's country is now in recession, are worried about the British, as they can slash tax rates to encourage investment banks etc to set up in London. Over 100 have already applied to do so.

So its all about money with you? If they had money you would take them back. Im glad our ancestors didnt have your attitude.
I would call the right to be part of their own country a pretty big right wouldn't you

To be honest Eoin, i think you are on the wind up. Were you around in the 60's, 70's and 80's, even into the 90's when this country was basically bankrupt ? I remember it vividly, the appalling slums, the hopeless unemployment, Very few going on to third level education, the alcoholism and drugs, crime, the birth of gangland ireland, no one having a decent car, the state of the roads, the illegal money lenders, rural ireland being an old peoples home as everyone had emigrated. You want to go back to that for some idealistic notion of an united Ireland ? What will it achieve in practical terms can you tell me ?

I have been up north shooting a lot, most of the nationalist people up there seem happy enough to me.

The Westminster government subsidize Northen Ireland to the tune of 10 billion a year, If all these American Companies leave and go to eastern europe, where would the dail get that money ? How would the excellent NHS hospitals up there be funded ?

    Some more "What if's";

With the 20 SF TD's topping the poll so far, with massive surpluses, the party must be rueing not fielding more candidates.

Sooooo....they might think that going into government may not be a great idea. If SF sit this one out, shout about housing and health while a precarious rainbow government muddles its way for 18 months or so before falling off its own nose......SF could come back with more candidates and possibly gain more seats, maybe enough to get Mary Lou into leo's shoes.

Reckon Leo has to go, they'll have to drag him out by the sound of it.

Government parties have paid the price this time, FG and I4Change the losers. Ross gone - no loss.

Sinn féin are the largest nationalist party in the north of Ireland still you say most of them are happy with with they have got. They may be close to the largest down the south aswell so maybe its time for you to hide your money you value so much
