interest on mortgage repayment

    Hello

    I started paying off my BOI mortgage in September last at a rate of 3%. I received a letter today detailing my payments up until December. After just a couple of repayments I have paid over €1000 in interest meaning currently my mortgage balance is higher than it was before I started paying it back. Can this be right??
