Why do the US want to send the CDC in?

Whats the US reputation on Whistleblowers?

All I know is the Chinese banked on covering this up and that it would just go away. They bet wrong, they aint in a place to lecture anybody

The WHO is the international body and they have been in contact since the start.

Plenty of other nations have excellent scientists in this area (France, Russia, Swiss etc) and they don't assume they will all get invites to visit.

The US has done nothing to get an invite, they just assumed they'd be allowed in. That might have worked in an Obama government, but the Chinese couldn't care less about doing Trump a favour.

Exactly. When I was sent the vid by a worried friend, I pointed out that Tom hateful Cotton is a trump man and the corona virus is a gift to that shower of fear creators and war lovers.

I will wait for the WHO, scientists and specialist medics for my info. FB/social media is incredibly dangerous at times.

8 more cases in Japan, not from the cruise ship. You will need to use Google Translate.

Shivering, puking, gushing, bone pains, rapidly rising temperature, headache... a sea of misery now although I can type this between episodes... if I hadn’t taken that oral vaccine this morning I’d be getting worried. :(:)

I hate some of those meds but like you say it's better than getting the real deal. Malaria meds usually send me into a paranoid delusion for about a week.

I've had a banging head cold all week and there's a part of my subconscious saying "you got it bro, game over" no fever so I'm good.

I've been thinking about how much virons you need to be exposed to , to become infected. Does anyone know?
I found one paper that says one molecule is enough. A viron is a virus particle

    https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/03/090313150254.htm

    More here
    https://www.quora.com/How-many-individual-virus-are-needed-to-start-an-infection-Will-1-flu-virus-be-enough-to-make-you-sick-or-do-you-need-many-more-than-that

tldr, it depends on the virus type

In theory one but that will probably never be enough to cause infection. Body defences, acids etc.

However, unlike many people think, the virus is not floating around on its own but attached to droplets or dust particles in the air. Millions could be on one droplet and if it's lucky and you aren't you will be infected.

Scary situation imo. Although, they did not mention Coronavirus and I am curious where he got the pneumonia.

Perhaps a bit early for corona virus, but something else just as dangerous. Very curious.

Cheers for the link. Unfortunately, my hope that this would be more-or-less confined to China is diminishing by the day. I guess that was a bit naive of me anyway. Hopefully, now that governments realise the severity of the situation, they can be proactive about it and not let it fester in the initial weeks - a la the Chinese. The heightened awareness should bring about more stringent measures, and to be fair it seems that a few of those Japanese cases are already traced to the source of infection - which is good, as the authorities can follow-up accordingly. I know the numbers outside of China are growing day-by-day, but hopefully the rate of this growth remains low (relative to China anyway). As others have alluded to, the next week will tell us a lot.

Just thinking about this. What are the chances that there are two viruses in circulation in China and beyond? Could it even be that the corona virus has mutated into a less (or more) harmful strain which is also in circulation at the same time as a previous strain. Any opinions on whether that is possible and/or likely?

Still a long way off yet - if the virus continues on it won't be a case of cancelling, they'll be no countries going there to start with

The coming spring/summer is best chance of bringing this under control. Apparently the virus will not cope well in higher temps outside of winter. Until then chaos.

But it's always winter somewhere in the world. That's why viruses circulate the world and show up again (or a mutation) in your location the following winter.

I keep reading taht too and it's very reassuring, until you think about Thailand and Singapore where temperatures are currently over 25c and very humid, exactly the type of weather that should stop the spread. Then again temperatures in Europe reach 30c and over in the Summer so there is still hope

Don't know if poster is implying it was you but there was plenty of comments at the start of the thread about it only being a flu. It was obvious then it wasn't and surprise surprise those posters seem to have gone quiet on it now.

I wonder would a dry heat be needed... could humid weather help spread it with so much moisture in the air?

    Dukoral vaccine side-effects update :D

The nausea has died away, stomach pain fading, temperature 101 and falling, fluid balance normalising. That’s on onset of cytokine reaction 4 and a half hours after vaccine ingestion, with symptoms starting to abate 2 and a half hours after that.

    Yes, vaccines are worth it.

I don't know does this answer your question, or if I'm covering old ground that others have in the thread, but an Aus based specialist said on CNN today that this virus has mutated several times already and is notable for its extremely high mutation rate, which is why the Chinese can't nail it down.

Or, and this is just conjecture of course, it might not be the same virus in all cases and the test is giving false positives as well as negatives. This could go some way to explain how this virus seems to differ so much in transmission, progression, severity and morbidity when compared to previous coronaviruses that were similar like SARS and MERS.

Yes agreed. 100% speculation but not beyond the realms of possibility that we are witnessing a perfect storm of two or more concurrent viruses.

Here’s a quote from the wikipaedia entry for coronaviruses in general:

“Seven strains of human coronaviruses are known:

    Human coronavirus 229E (HCoV-229E)

    Human coronavirus OC43 (HCoV-OC43)

Severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus (SARS-CoV)

Human coronavirus NL63 (HCoV-NL63, New Haven coronavirus)

    Human coronavirus HKU1

Middle East respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus (MERS-CoV), previously known as novel coronavirus 2012 and HCoV-EMC.

Novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV),[27][28] also known as Wuhan coronavirus.[29] ('Novel' in this case means newly discovered, or newly originated, and is a placeholder name.)[28]”

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coronavirus

When you read under each of the seven they vary in pathogenicity but ALL are readily capable of causing lethal disease in the vulnerable. The “Common Cold” can be caused by several viruses but is most usually associated with the more benign Rhinovirus family.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_cold

There’s nothing simple about the business of all these type of pathogens. We have all had variants of Corona viruses, many of us will have had vulnerable relatives whose final illness it was. The world of science is still trying to work out the level of contagion and pathogenicity of the latest one discovered CoVid-19, but so far it seems to have a fairly high level of contagion and a moderate level of pathogenicity (versus severe/deadly).

Wasn't referring to you at all... just the general authority ..it's just the flu..

Wondering if that infected man who went to the bus conference was one of the 4 drivers of the horsemen buses who transferred the Wirral people from the plane and was sent home to self isolate for 10 days... no clue at all, just thought it was incredibly casual of the authorities at the time.. just a flu was the line..
it's being used sarcastically on twitter with some time now with videos of people being locked into their homes...

The person at the bus conference was a SHE, sea breeze and it was in London.

She rang nhs number who advised her to get an ambulance or private transfer to hospital. I think there was a miscommunication and she thought private transfer meant taxi rather than her own transport. That’s why she got the Uber.

Interesting fact...There are more than 200 viruses that can cause the common cold - rhinoviruses are by the far the most common culprits.

Approx 25% of people infected with a common cold virus are lucky enough not to experience any symptoms at all.
