Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Almost exactly 50% of patients on the Diamond Princess are asymptomatic positives. I dont know if that means they are never going to show symptoms or if they are still in the incubation phase but if it is the former case then there are likely several million cases worldwide already

Yes it is likely many will experience symptoms as it progresses. But there are cases of children in particular who have contracted the illness and not experienced any symptoms throughout the course of the disease progression

I see this is as a positive to be honest. Because perhaps it means only severe cases account for 70K confirmed infected.

This would bring the death toll down to a ridiculously low %.

There have been reports of people recovering having a relapse then dying.

Must be a complete hotbed over there - what sort of medical facilities does Iran have to handle this?

See I am one of the people taking this thing serious and yet I am cracking jokes.

Getting real information is not causing panic.

I don't think we are all doomed but nor do it think sure it will be grand.

The spread we are seeing is not good let us be honest.

I wonder what film director in a few years will make Covid-19: The Movie. And what actors? :)

How many people in Iran are in a position to go the the doctor with a mild illness which most people get? Of course it's inaccurate, as it probably is all over the world. That's why drawing mortality figures right now is not smart, but there simply is no point trying to explain that to some people.

Your constant attempts at "humour" and sarcasm are getting really tiresome. It's the behaviour of a teenager trying to get likes.

No it is my attempt to show we can take this thing serious without panic.

Trying to brush things under the carpet is was causes panic.

The constant drone is only a 2% death rate is annoying.
People have recovered and relapsed and died.
People who have tested negative have later tested positive.

The thing seems to have a pretty long incubation period and the number of dead seems to be going up much faster the last few days.

Posting frivolous responses doesn't indicate seriousness.

I could understand if the thread was in After Hours, but I thought Current Affairs was for a slightly more high more high brow discussion (emphasis on the slightly).

Very slightly anyway I will lay off the jokes.
My point is valid however this seems to be more serious than a lot of people will accept.

I find CinemaGuy45' s graveyard humour unobjectionable, in contrast to the point-and-giggle brigade who don't seem to have read any of the data, and ask why anyone is worried about a disease that only kills old people and ill people.

Yes the only people who seem worried about a panic are the ones with a stick up their ass you can picture them now.

Look when this thing hits I will be home with the rice and noodles.

Posters like Mic 72 are giving real numbers in context I find that very useful.

On the limited data we have which I have read my GUESS would be at a 5% to 10% death rate.

Telling people to be silent and not cause panic when they are calm and rational is not high brow.

Nothing worse than tacky art that thinks it is a masterpiece.

Still amazed by the "only effects elderly or those with medical complications". Do we suddenly not care for our relatives over 60? Age is always a risk for your health, but most people will usually live to a fine enough age. Something like this, easily infectious and killing with ease without a remedy, could potentially get a lot of people well before their time. But I guess you don't really need them anymore eh?

"The contagiousness of this virus is very strong and pretty virulent," Lombardy's health chief Giulio Gallera told a press conference today.

But he cautioned: "Today it's not a pandemic."

Something for both sides in that analysis! By the way, anyone notice how they say masks won't protect you yet we see all medical workers wearing one even in a chemist?

Two Chinese tourists from Wuhan are still being treated in isolation in Rome. Since these are tourists, they had to eat in restaurants, use rest areas, did some shopping, and touring. How many could these have infected, staying in hotels or hostels, how much of Italy had they already travelled, what flights and transport did they use, It is not a good time to be going on holiday at the moment

It's understandable they don't want to say it though - although it would be a serious development, people would overreact.

Speaking of overreacting, I've just booked two weeks leave at work I had left over from last year and just didn't end up taking. Hopefully it'll just be a nice holiday and not necessary.
