Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Oh no... we really don't. I have had massive banter reading this thread. It's genuinely great.

Based on the quick spread of the coronavirus on the Diamond Princess cruise ship, it’s likely the coronavirus spreads similarly to the norovirus, which is through the fecal-oral route and through contaminated objects called fomites that eventually contaminate our food and water.

    Second part of ?

Btw 'Formites' are objects or materials which are likely to carry infection, such as clothes, utensils, and furniture.

Read the bible and hope for the best is your only option now.
Except if your in China, they may send to the Gulag (re-education centre).

Must be tough enough for their worker drones to be sent off to the crem if deemed unfit for purpose/recovery. Not even a few flowers, good luck charms, hymns nor incense.

However some of the earlier utube vids from China showed plenty of folks resorting to Buddist chanty music (decent enough with the singing bowls) to while away their building's lockdown. Guess as long as it's kept at low volume and no visual symbology, they'll be allowed to continue.

Watched a few minutes of Dr John live stream.. he sounds like he might have caught it already with all his coughing.

No doubt it’s getting closer to us alright.

Surprised Oz and NZ have no (reported) cases given the trade and tourism with China.

Think the Aussies have about 20 confirmed around their main states, they also use Chrissy Island and Darwin for inbound cases.

Ok thanks for info re Oz And NZ. Hadn’t heard that, must admit. Not surprised though.

Are not all the Oz cases people from China that got moved back - is there a single case of H2H there outside the quarantine?

Bit concerned about the Milan confirmation now. I work for an Italian company, and about 50 of our 100 odd employees are Italian (and most would have come direct from the Milan office). They travel home a lot, especially this week with mid term. And we often have convoys of the group company employees over to visit.

I'm perfectly healthy, but my mother has had some health issues and I'd worry about passing anything on. She lives down the country so perhaps I should just avoid visiting home until this all blows over.

Have a feeling if Id be laughed at if I asked any questions at work re: a contingency plan or anything like that.

Ask. Might even spur them on to make a contingency plan if they haven't already. There are at least 50000 Italians being advised to stay at home as of yesterday, I don't think they can really believe you're being unreasonable for expressing concern..

I thought we produce a food surplus?

I don't expect or even suggest the action; just curious about whether we could.

Medicine... fuel... probably loads more than just food

Italy up to 66 cases, sudden spike is only due to mass testing which means its most likely been there for a few weeks, im in no doubt its hiding here too now, will be doing my second prep shop on monday

I think if there is another case or two in Milan and its showing signs of spreading there then I think you have a duty (to all of us) to flag this. But just one case Im not so sure.

When would this be expected to peak in Europe ? since it is out now , and no stopping it ...

How does this virus maintain it's strength ? Will it not run it's course>? Does it not dilute down with every infection it causes

What? No that's not how this works, that's not how any flu or virus's work.

You might be confusing how if a virus is too lethal it can kill the host before they can become infectious or spread it to enough new hosts, this corona virus has a massive incubation and infectious stage prior to anyone showing symptoms so its ability to spread is unlike any flu like illness we have seen for some time.

It seems to be following a similar pattern to what happened in China so you'd expect a peak in europe within the next 6 weeks.

If you calculate the time it takes to destroy a city and move on, we're looking at the worldwide destruction of every major city in the next 36 hours .

It's a bit optimistic for this thread!

But anyway, seriously it looks like this is here to stay and will be another type of flu one can get - perhaps a seasonal one.

I have not gotten flu for 25 years so, fingers crossed .... Jah Bless.....

Some really fast footwork in Australia:
Barely six weeks after the first recorded death from the new coronavirus in Wuhan, researchers in Australia will begin testing a potential vaccine on animals.

A factory in Melbourne on Friday began creating small doses of the vaccine for testing. If it keeps animals safe from the virus, it will be tested on humans.

The extraordinary plan – to develop a vaccine for a virus we barely understand, at breakneck pace – is being led by a team of scientists at the University of Queensland, with support from other teams around the country.

It isn't following the same pattern as Europe as in China.
When there were this number of cases in China the police were arresting anyone who talked about it. Big difference.

Lots of debate, but some of the better scientists forecast the epidemic doubling every 6.4 days https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)30260-9/fulltext

That looks like about 4-5 months. That also assumes there are no public health interventions to slow it down, which there will be. The health authorities will push to spread out the peak rather than have it happen over a short time.

I think the basic idea is that your body raises the temperature (which can be unpleasant) to fight the virus, paracetamol counteracts the temperature rising, so you feel better but are just stopping your body fighting the virus. Think that's more or less the jist.

Surely it can mutate a variation of these 3 major ways? Depending on host and environmental conditions.
