Man Germans are so much nicer in comparison to the Dutch, that's saying a lot.

    To each their own.

How many americans actually know how to speak Irish?

You’ve a strange obsession with language and Irish not speaking Irish and your ability to speak Dutch
Maybe the problem isn’t Irish culture or cultural differences but with yourself and your lazy attitude

Sounds harsh but If you talk half the ****e you’ve posted on this thread Id imagine your fairly hard to socialise with ...I mean your that bad people cant tell if your trolling?

People have left some good tips to broaden your horizons but to be honest I don’t think you’ll ever integrate in Irish society or think much of it ..your here two years and you’ve explored as far as Smithfield in search of trad? So you’ll prob go back home with the same view which is unfortunate for you because your wasting years in a country with a rich culture you don’t understand or don’t want to

I often go to Galway and yes I do like galway, same for Belfast to a lesser extent. Cork was grand the one time I was there. But where in Kerry could I conceivably go without a car? And what can I do in waterford other than eat a Blaa bread?

Could I perhaps respectfully suggest you could instead stuff said bread where the sun don’t shine?

I’m sure it would at the very least provide the good people of Waterford with an entertaining sight!

Equally it could perhaps become a party trick for you at your next gathering with your fellow countrymen & women when you tire of having to speak any language other than your native tongue.

I’m sure any parties with you in attendance are an absolute hoot.

Yeah then no wonder thaat you have no Dutch friends. Although we indeed have fluent english, if you come to a party with only Dutch people we'd all have to switch to english just for you which most Dutch people would find annoying, hence you might often not be invited for those kinds of things.

    This is gold...

Such a wonderful and inclusive bunch of people the Dutch are...

Things to do in Waterford? A very old viking settlement? The best thing you can come up with is eat a sandwich? Maybe your imagination is the problem?

The rest of the post was too much for you, was it?

What work are you doing in Ireland? Why are you in Ireland?

I think the OP and the other poster Mr Fegelein would get on famously.

Train to Tralee plus a 15-20 minute taxi journey would get you to some really beautiful towns and villages along Kerry’s coast.

There’s a variety of things to do in Waterford from museums to markets, art galleries, historical sites, walks.

It seems like you’d rather look for problems than solutions.

Okay imagine you speak Irish, and you are drinking at the Conraidh na Gaeilge or whatever it's spelled. This is specifically a place where the rule is to speak Irish. And then I barge in and I don't speak that much irish so I just have banter in English. That wouldn't be very fun now would it.

Indeed, people have left some good tips (among all the gibberish about Dutch genocides and rude dutch people and telling me to get out of ireland and all that). And I will take many of those to heart and I appreciate those few quality posters amidst the gibberish.

As I don't feel as if much more of the good content will appear in between the gibberish, as far as I'm concerned the thread can be locked and I thank all those who did have constructive tips. Thanks.

But that is not comparable, as there is no rule to have to speak Dutch at a party where's there's only Dutch people.

So the entirety of the Netherlands is "specifically a place where the rule is to speak" Dutch?

    Classic.

    Classic.

In the city center of amsterdam you will find entire pubs where none of the staff will have a word of Dutch as they are all internationals and geared towards the expat and tourist market if thats your thing !

OP....I'm not sure how someone who finds so few people talking politics, knows so much about who people vote for or their reasons for doing so!

Which is strange, because the Dutch tend to be the opposite... makes you wonder...

You could say, he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't at this point! :D

This was never a Current Affairs topic and there is no obvious other place to move it, particularly in light of some of the comments made
