Broadband Speed Question!

This may be a very silly question, but here it goes anyway!

Currently a customer of Vodafone with fibre to the cabinet and speeds of up to 90mb....fibre to the home is not available to me.

Virgin Media are offering "up to 250mb" on their service which they claim to be "different" to vodafone.

Is it possible that I can get better speeds with Virgin Media? Or is up to 90mb the best i can get!

Virgin use their own cables, if its actually available then it will be 250/360.

My experience with VM is very good when it comes to speeds. I have my PC connected directly to my router and would be hitting close to the speed advertised.

Even over Wifi speedtests on my mobile are very good. Better than I expected.

Great...that's pretty much the type of answer i was looking for!
And would that be an easy thing to connect up myself do you know?
They never said that to me about using their own cables, obviously what they meant by "different"!

If you have them preinstalled yes.



If there's a socket that is that shape (ports facing floor) with either NTL/Chorus/UPC/Virgin on it then it may be self install. Otherwise wall drilling and possibly cables run across your next door neighbours facia.

Hi there, I'm following this - I'm using Vodafone broadband and phone and getting it for €40 a month at the moment, the trouble is that I can get WIFI only on my laptop and on 2 smart tvs and one 5g mobile phone and that's it - it won't work on my mobile or my son's mobile and RTE player won't work

I've been told, by various people, that it is a bad signal from the modem and even a wifi booster wouldn't make a difference as it is only bouncing an already bad signal round the house

So do people recommend Virgin then - as they use their own cables? Is this right. Thanks

Can you get wifi on your mobile when you're beside the router?

Hi, no it won't work beside the router either

It may be an issue with the router in that case. Try powering off your phone and router. Restart both and see if that works.

Thanks for that, I appreciate it - I'll give it a go. Am currently getting my laptop fixed - these tech issues have me addled 😀
