Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi guys,

So myself and a friend are signing up for the Gaelforce Sky run 22km Expert. I have started running about 6 months ago, but am generally quite fit anyways through years of playing football. My runs have been in between 10km-15km doing roughly 5m10s kms on generally flat ground.

I know this is very different from running on flat roads, but do you think it is achievable for someone such as myself?

    Yeah.

Trail running is a whole different kettle of fish from running roads, let alone a sky run on an open mountain in Connemara. The list of mandatory kit should be your first clue about what to expect.

This run will be a lot of slow, muddy up and down in possibly terrible weather.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO ENTER THE 22KM EXPERT OR 13KM INTERMEDIATE EVENTS:
    • These are events for experienced mountain runners only, i.e those who take part in mountain runs on a regular basis
    • ...
    • It is not suitable for those who, while fit, are used to running on roads and tracks only - we offer the 12km Introductory Event as an introduction to mountain running
    • ...
    • If you are not sure that this event is suitable for you then it probably is not
    Do the introductory 12k

I did the Gaelforce intermediate 13K when there was snow ice huge pools of water slippery boggy terrain. It was also very windy. Perhaps conditions maybe more benign for you but you must train properly on hilly terrain or you will suffer very badly. Check out imra.ie for some short hill and mountain events to test the water
