Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It is normal we are finding this hard and a bit stressy due to all the uncertainty. We are all doing great considering! My plan is to be relaxed and not put pressure on myself but give some time to do little test for myself and then take a break from it all and do something nice like go for a hike with my dog or something. I think finding balance is key. Health and mental health is far more important and we are all going to eventually pass these one way or the other.

I am all about the mindfulness and self-care especially when sitting high pressured exams under uncertain conditions (like going for a nice coffee for a study break) and listen to online meditations which I recommend also!

This was lovely to read today after a slightly stressy morning, thanks!

Hey guys, after finally producing the hard copy of my March 2020 results and being as pushy I could, work agreed I could apprentice in house! No need to look for a new job, see you all virtually for PPC1!!!

Also here's a good Twitter thread on the infringement procedures the EU is bringing against the UK for anyone studying EU law rn

I got my Tort script back and there wasn't any commentary or markings from the examiner whatsoever. Literally just a number for the percentage given at the end of each question. Looked as if it had been marked incredibly quickly.

I had my scripts from March sent to me - none had any commentary - I don’t think they give any tbh they just look for the key cases and key words

I’m still waiting for my Tort one

Doesn’t sound good for me... got my August results the second results date so looks like I’ll be waiting another week or so! Won’t make the recheck deadline!

Anybody have information about applying for refund for November exam that was passed in August? I’ve emailed three times now and still no reply...

I've been waiting 6 months for a refund. I think the Law Society strategy is just tire you out in the hopes that you'll eventually forget the money they owe you.

Does anyone have a note on State (DPP) v Walsh [1981] in relation to constitutional interpretation? The paragraph in my manual doesn't make sense and I can't find anything about it online in relation to the same issue as its being discussed in the manual (harmonious method). Basically, I don't understand what the conflict was/what articles were involved.
    Thanks

I was told that the exams would follow the same timetable as the October sitting, but starting on the 3rd of November.
That would mean that EU would be the 13th, but they didn't say that to me exactly- just that it's the same days, starting the 3rd.

Hi I recently got an invitation on LinkedIn to a "Pathways in Law" webinar in 5 days. It's purpose is to "open the eyes of law graduates and junior lawyers to the many different routes to success in the legal profession".

Does this sound of any value to anyone? I mean, I kind of know my path for now at least. Do the FE1s, try and get a bit of work experience in a law firm to boost the CV for TCs, get training contracts and so on.

I also got that - don’t see the harm in registering for it - I think it’s more like there’s loads of places to train and ways to do it

    I registered for it

I've reworked my topics for Contract, would this be enough to get 5+ Qs?

    - Offer & Acceptance
    - Consideration & Promissory Estoppel
    - Terms of a Contract (Implied & Express)
    - Consumer Protection
    - Mistake
    - Exclusion Clauses
    - Remedies

I've done all of these but have added discharge and capacity of minors (very short and easy). Haven't sat contract before so would be good to hear from others whether this would be enough given questions can be mixed etc, but you'd be covering the most important topics there for sure.

I think if it was your first time to register you had to be sent an approval email before paying so that's where it said it

So only those first time applicants got the email or did anybody else who has applied before get the email?

At this stage, I’m always feeling so anxious for any update from the LawSoc

This is my first time applying, submitted my application and waited a couple of weeks then got an email saying that my application for red cow moran has been approved and to pay through the link attached. Not sure if that's where I will actually be but that's all that was in the email

its my second sitting and I never got a payment link or email with a venue I just paid on the LS website as part of my application. My application just got approved straight away but got no email with any info on the exam.

Same but like we’ve paid and it’s been approved so I wouldn’t worry too much

    Will probably know more Monday

Good to know that they're committed to physical sittings. Not that I prefer them, but it's just good to know where we stand. I had to buy a new laptop which has drained most of my funds just on the off chance they were online this month (original date).

I still can't see it going ahead, case numbers keep rising in Dublin no matter being level 3 or whatever level they put them on. They already postponed the entire sitting once it became impossible to sit them in Dublin. So I can't see it going ahead in Cork, even if they somehow avoid imminent level 3 restrictions.

For those who apply first they have to be emailed a payment link. This is not the case for people who have already sat one before. I paid during my application on the LS website and after a few weeks it was approved.

Are the Law Society aware that the chances of Dublin being reduced to Level 2 by early November is very slim?

Guess they’re just hoping it will. I guess there’s not much they can do given the circumstances at the moment

Hopefully everything works out and we’re not delayed in moving on to the next stage

That doesn’t make any sense if company is on Wednesday 7th and it’s moved to 7th November that’s a Saturday? And if it’s starting on the Wednesday 3rd November company isn’t the first exam so it wouldn’t be on the Wednesday? Can they not just publish a new timetable or people are gonna turn up on the wrong days

I think it follows the same structure, but starts on the 3rd instead of the 6th
So the second exam would be on the 4th

They mean the first week of the month is the same. Originally supposed to take place first week of October, now provisionally first week of November.

    Hi!

Constitution can be overwhelming as the questions are not to a specific topic and can be confusing. I felt this also the last time around. He is a really sound marker. I have been told and found it worked well if I just threw everything at a question in my mind as a list. Eg does separation of powers fit this question? Does Property rights? Does family? etc and say I would argue that property rights are also being infringed upon. If you say I would argue in Constitution you can argue anything! Even write out the list of topics in rough work and if it fits the question in some shape tick it off! I actually used nutshell also when studying and a few extra cases as the manual I was using was not as straightforward with explanations I found.

With regards questions I would pay attention to interpretation, referendum the president and AG as these never came up in last sitting! Property rights seems to be a regular as well as sop but personally I am not indept on sop just know the functions and a couple of relevant cases. If I were to learn the full manual I would cry and be overwhelmed. I literally pick a topic and write a brain storm of what know as a way of study. I ready the questions and think could I argue property rights ect

I hope this helps. Good luck. I suspect you know more than you are giving yourself credit and it will all come together for you.

Definitely dont need the year, god is hard enough remembering the cases. If the case is very well known like a seminal case you could even get away with just the plaintiff e.g. Glencar, McGhee, Fairchild, even Hanarahan I'd say when discussing nuisance. The fact is though for the well known cases you actually know both parties but I think it saves on time. Definitely for EU just the Plaintiff's name is sufficent.

One name is definitely enough, no need to memorise both plaintiff and defendant. I’ve done 4 of them this year so far, quoted plaintiff name only for all case law. It’s cast iron.
