Match 53: Lou Reed (a classic - I completely forgot about it)
Match 54: Carly Simon (I like both but will give it to Carly SImon as Queen have a couple other songs in the competition that could go far)
Match 55: Kate Bush (I think itis one of my nominations)
Match 56: Thin Lizzy (ouf, tough one, Papa was a rolling stone had a couple of great covers in the 80s-90s, but this is one of teh Lizzy songs I really like)

It's fierce difficult to keep track of which battles are complete - might it be easier to post all (or at least more) at once instead of only four matches per "round"?

Don't know if you have enough votes yet. But these are my votes.

This thread has been an education on songs where admittedly I thought the cover version was the original  My excuse is I wasn't around in the 70s.

I've just been keeping with the template of the other two threads (80s and 90s). The problem with posting all together is that, it becomes a bit unwieldy for anyone to trawl through 64 matches and vote on each one, and if I only post that once during the day, the only a few posters get to participate. Posting on and off throughout the day means people who are available at different times get to dip in and out as they are available. It would also take a long time to put together the post with 128 links. If I have 10-15 mins I can put together a round with four in it and then can track votes relatively easily after that.

Also as per the other threads, I've been posting the results for each set of matches so it's clear which ones are still to be decided.

    My votes are highlighted below.

Match 57: Oliver's Army - Elvis Costello v I Can Feel the Earth Move - Carole King

Match 58: We Are the Champions - Queen v Young Hearts Run Free - Candi Staton - my nomination.

Match 59: Layla - Eric Clapton v One Way or Another - Blondie. I assume this Derek and The Dominoes from the 1970s and not the one being shown which was much more recent!

Match 60: Get It On (Bang a Gong) - T.Rex v You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet - Bachman Turner Overdrive
They're both just alright:overplayed over the years.

The only thing I would change in these comps is a no vote posts window between posting of videos and counting of votes.

By the time I’ve listened to one song, the round is already decided!

Well you could time limit the matches instead like the quarters onwards are done I s'pose.

Would take a good bit longer though to get through - but would also be easier for the hosts in terms of timing maybe?

Ya at this stage, with 64 matches in Round 1 proper, it's just the sheer volume of matches to post and count votes for.

It's easier to do in later rounds.

I'd also assume for the vast majority of songs, they generally aren't obscure so most people will have heard of a good chunk of the songs. People's age comes into that of course. Plenty of the ones in the noughties thread I'd never heard of.

Yep, I'm the same. The fact that there isn't one unfamiliar song on this thread speaks volumes

I have a serious 70s playlist now. Everything I could ever possibly want - except for a few glaring omissions that were mentioned earlier on the thread.
