My wife can and will only drive an automatic transmission car, which limits our options obviously.

Is there any place in Limerick that deals in automatic more than any other, or is it just a case of each place having a few?

Very limited selection on Done Deal and other sites.

2nd hand, enterprise cars on the dock road.
If memory serves, isn't your Mrs Japanese?

Perhaps directly importing something from there might be a better option, unless your financing of course.

What type of car? I don't even know of an automatic specialist in Dublin, apart from places that sell high end stuff that just happen to be mainly autos

There's 15,500 automatics on sale on donedeal by the way... I'm sure most are not the tyoe of car she wants, too old, too big, too expensive, too small... But there should be something there that suits everyone

I'd focus on the particular make/model of car you want/need first and then research the garage selling it. A fair few dodgy car dealers have popped up selling cars out of yards around Limerick in the last few years so be careful who you are buying from and what you are buying.

Yeah, she is Japanese. There is decent value in the import options, but you get killed on the insurance as the car has no Irish road history. Thanks, I'll have a look at Enterprise cars.

Looking for something local so that any issues can be dealt with more easily.

Not looking for anything special, but even casting that wide net, there are so few options.

Wasn't it Enterprise who used to bring in the imports from Japan in the 90s? These would have been all manual I take it? Is this still a thing, importing from Japan? Or would it be specialist cars only?

They were always mental money, had a massive margin on them. You could buy it yourself online for much less but as a business that's they're thing I guess. Taking the pain out of it. I get annoyed buying a phone case from Aliexpress with having to be patient, can't image having to wait on a car sailing around the world. :pac:

If I had to buy a new car I'd be flying to the UK and driving it home myself, much better value and way more choice along with being cheaper.

There is a dealer cmc in Clondrinagh who will source cars for you if you didn't want to do it. Give them a shopping list and they'll come back with something that in stock somewhere in the UK that they'll get for you. They take trades as well.

Yes, I imagine they'll all do it as there's much better bookeeping in it than bringing in something hoping somebody might come along and buy from stock.

Japanese imports tend to be treated as a higher risk by insurance companies. UK imports are not really treated any differently to original Irish cars by insurance companies however.

Enterprise Cars on the Dock Road, Cannot recall the name of the guy who runs it but I bought a car for my daughter there quite a few years back, and it is still going!

When I was looking, I came aross a place in Rush, County Dublin which is still there and still seems to sell only automatics.

    http://www.amcc.ie/

It might be useful to look at their site to give you idea of prices. They seem to be all Japanese imports.

In the end, I got my own mechanic to keep a look out for me in Limerick, and after a few weeks, he got me a nice one
