Gear syncro Kia Sportage

    I have a 142 kia sportage, I'm having trouble changing gears from 2nd into 3rd and from 4th into 3rd, a slight grinding, I was told it was the gear syncro ring, this is the 3rd time in 3 years this has happened, as I'm out of warranty and just wondering how much would it cost to repair approximately.

    I thought they had a 7 year warranty plus you must have some come back as it has given trouble allready..

    They do have a 7 year warranty or 150,000.00km which I'm over by about 15,000 km

    Forgot about that but I'd be seeking professional advice as that is p1ss poor service life, sorry I can't offer any more help!

    Hi oil in gearbox ever changed or you done 150000 on '' life time oil'' then you can answer yourself change oil first for good one I don't know what they use in Kia but in my 6 speed VW gearbox after ,60000 oil was like cola cola color burnt .cost I can tell you as well on VW basis 650 including bearing and synchro mesh

    See if you have a local dealer that sells BG products.
    Change the oil to a BG product called Syncho Shift II - Ive used it in the past for sticky Hyundai and Kia boxes with good success.

    Hey there , I have a grind going from 3rd to 4th , they said it was the synchro rings also but only had a phone consultation so it must be common in Kia Sportage mine is 161 , any chance can you tell me how much it would cost to fix ? I’m gonna try get the oil changed out tonight instead of paying a bomb worth the try ,
