You say it's nonsense. What if I disagree?

Why does a religion specify legal penalties for various things? That's the function of politics, not religion.

If a religion acts like a political party then it should be regulated as such, and legal protections should be removed.

The alternative is the violence that we see.

Such 'legal' penalties are simply not valid in the West. Even in many Muslim majority countries, e.g., Malaysia, they are not valid except for the Muslim community.

The whole point is, why is a religion attempting to impose legal penalties on people?

    It's because it's a political movement, not a religion.

If the Nazis called themselves religious we'd all be doing the goose step now.

We need to distinguish between religions and political movements.

No legal protections for religion or for religious thought would be best. We need to stop pandering to extremists who threaten violence.

What "legal penalties" are you talking about?

Does the "no legal protection" go for all religions?

Apparently he may have been as he either stole or bought the knife from a local shop.

Ghost, I have lived for many years in Islamic Country's, and in these Countrys, Islam is everything literally.. the Law, Morality etc. the Quran dictates every aspect of a Muslims life, from the time he wakes up in the morning until he / she goes to sleep at night. It answers all his question's. Even in non-Islamic Countrys,Muslims will obey the local Laws, but in as much as it's possible...they will use Sharia Law. Just because they move to a non-Islamic Country, doe not mean that they give up Islam...they don't. For a practicing Muslim, the most important thing in his /her life is Islam, and how to be the best Muslim they can be, no matter where they find themselves.

So what do you suggest? Locking people up forever?

Im sure some “people” should be locked up “forever” .This is what the Judge said about him , a year or 2 is too short . Treat them with the respect they want, no country would generally let enemy combatants out before any conflict is finally resolved.
In terms of mindset, your interest in Islamic extremism and Daesh [Islamic State/Isis] appears to be more than just an immature fascination. It seems to me on the material here that you are someone with sincerely held and concerning ideological beliefs that motivate you to collect and disseminate material of the type here. In online chat you tell your girlfriend that you have declared a pledge to Islamic State and that you wish to purge society and carry out acid attacks. You speak about preferring a knife attack to the use of bombs and ask about having a knife delivered to her address. You speak about Isis being the best thing to happen to Islam as well as speaking about being an internet mujahidin or a real one. In other chat you speak about thinking of carrying out a terrorist attack at Queensbury and to doing some reconnaissance. In the notebook found in the search where you made notes about explosives and detonators you also note ‘goals in life’ that include a desire to die as a martyr and to go to paradise.

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer
