Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I really don’t miss Sakho. He’s so shaky that he makes Lovren look like Alan Hansen.

Absolutely. The ref didn't give it, so not like removing VAR makes it better. People conveniently forget that.
VAR has gotten a lot more decisions right that wouldn't have been given. It'll never be 100%, cause it's still a ref/human behind it making a decision.

Just need to get it more consistent as you say.

I thought the rules this season were that any handball of any type was a penalty?

Nope, the general handball is pretty much as usual, thankfully. Has to be at least somewhat intentional, or at least somewhat negligent in their arm position to be a pen.

You might be thinking of the other side of it, that if you score after it touched any player on your teams hand in the buildup, then it's not a goal, even if 100% accidental. Those are not a foul, or a free, they're just not a goal. (which is a nonsensical rule imo - that its only an offense if its followed by a goal)

I think you've got it wrong according to this from the Premier League.
A goal scored or created with the use of the hand or arm will be disallowed even if it is accidental. The handball rule does not consider intent by a player.

    Thats exactly what I said...

<edit> Oh you mean the "intent" part... well, fair enough, but that depends entirely on your definition of intent. They're saying that if it hits your hand when your hand is in a natural position, and not extended to an unnatural position, it's not a pen. So you can say I guess that whether intentional or not, if their hand does something unnatural, it's a pen. And if your hand does something natural it's not a pen. IMO saying "unnatural move" is tantemount to intent, but potato potahto.

Either way, it's dependant on circumstance, and not a pen with any contact.

Tyler cracks me up. Two or three times now he's mentioned how Van Dijk 'won' that free kick. He was just blatantly fouled, Martin. Get over it.

It's the whole Premier league starting in 1992 that bothers me. Apparently nothing counted before that.

Reminds me of the Ox goal against City a couple of seasons ago in the UCL.

    Rocket.

I'm sure I saw somewhere that intent only doesn't matter in attack, it's still not a peno if you unitentionally handle in defence.
Unless someone like Atkinson is the ref, then who knows what happens.

2nd time in two games Tyler brings up Carragher was an Everton fan and that bloody quiz.

Hennessy had to do better for all 3 goals, should have used his Nazi salute hand.

It's honestly unfathomable how much worse he is in front of goal for us compared to for Holland.

Zaha off, and not starting Milivojević really killed them - without them, kills any chance of gaining a moment of possession in midfield, and breaking quick, significantly dropped.

I'd keep them going longer, cruising and no game for 8 days so this is good for match fitness.

One of the highlights of these games behind closed doors is really being able to focus your attention on how badly Martin Tyler is dealing with the reality of Liverpool winning the league.

    Slick stuff now.

Tyler is just terrible. He belts out "And it's Live!!!" and then goes to sleep for the rest of the game.

He did! It was awkward there for a minute or two. Noticeable silence before the replay of Fabinho’s goal

Great stuff tonight from the champions elect. Sunday was needed just to get the rustiness out of the system. Up and running now.
