I was in Amsterdam earlier this morning and I has a question.

I was waiting at the gate for the incoming aircraft and as soon as it appeared at the gate the gate agents closed the window blinds.

Why would they do that? Seems very strange to me.

Flight crew wanted some privacy for an orgy.

What was the airline? I have seen that happen in summer in the US to keep the aircraft cold during turnaround. I cannot imagine why you would do it in Amsterdam on a cold February morning.

I mean the windows in the terminal.

    Very strange. What airline?

It was not automatic window blinds reacting to the light conditions (rising sun)?

Removing a coffin from the plane? Or sick person?

Window blinds in the terminal at Schiphol are automatic.

That airport is a rip off, about €4 for a 500ml bottle of soda

It was only the 1 gate affected and it seems more than mere coincidence they closed as soon as the plane came on stand.

Ok, I can only speak from my own knowledge...which airline? Which gate? Was it sunny? Did they reopen at any stage...? There are lots of different sections so not all the blinds on the piers activate at the same time.

I don't know the reason for this particular occurrence, but as someone suggested above it can help provide some privacy if removing a coffin, an ill passenger or even an escorted prisoner.

    Which airline out of interest?

Bulgaria air. They only have 1 flight a day from AMS. Plane was connected to a jetbridge so that that would have provided privacy.

Some of the potential reasons you might want privacy could be using a scissor lift to R1 rather than L1 so it can't be fully discounted.

    Same in every other airport.
