Analysis at 06Z. The low is 4 hPa higher and a little further west than forecast 24 hours ago. The gradient is slightly less severe, which is why we're not seeing the high winds expected at places like Belmullet, Mace Head and Sherkin. Gust of 59 knots at Sherkin the highest so far this morning. The peak should have already arrived in those parts by now.

Here in Ennis and my goodness, this is one freakish storm. I am actually in a quite sheltered place in Clare's county town. But from around 3 am, to say that the wind was howling would be an understatement. Absolutely horrendous out there.

Two things to note. I hope that all countsmen and women along with the tally people and anyone heading to the respective counts centres throughout the country, please please do take extreme care and make arrangements to leave earlier from your homes as the weather, if anything is set to take a turn for the worse.

Also and this will be one for the GAA thread, how could any gaa or any sporting event for that matter could go ahead today. The GAA authorities giving the ultimate 2 fingers to supporters, players and management of all participating teams.

Surface conditions are taking a few hours to respond to the very rapid re-organization as what was already a fast-moving storm pressure jumped ahead after leaving Newfoundland. The south coast could prove to be as windy as the west coast with the core of the jet stream more overhead there. But I see Mace Head beginning to ramp up now. Anyway, stay safe, I've had a few rather busy days with this and unrelated other matters so will be sleeping through most of storm Ciara, will come back and find out the details from this thread and the hourly data.

Would watch for any organized looking lines of convective cells, these could be the focus for inland strong or damaging gusts.

Same here near Tralee, had a 10 min avg 49km/h and back down now to 37 km/h, gust 84 km/h. Looking at the models looks to hold this kind of wind speeds for most of the day here.
