I went out to put in this year's tax disc in the car this morning and only last year's disc was in the holder when I went out.
It seems that last year when my wife replaced the disc, she removed the 4 old discs :(
    What are my options here?

Excuse my naivety but why are they needed?

To laminate them and make beer coasters.

I'd divorce her. Throwing away useless bits of paper is grounds for divorce.

My Dad had an Almera for 16 years, some ball of tax discs in dash.

First they came for the socialists...

It's probably bait to get you out of the house so she can lock the door behind you.

Friend of mine got done for non-displaying of tax, he had the disk up but it was behind a load of older ones, numpty.

There's no need to prove that the car has always been taxed just that it's taxed now so feel free to dump the old ones, sometimes it can be awkard to get the old 1s out so Imight just put the new 1 in front of the old 1 but rarely that happens.

Looking at a massive hit on the resale value, could be up to 50% depending on who's interested.

Some people think that you have to prove that the car has always been taxed so some people might think that it could have an impact on resale value.

A lot of these "some people" also think the Earth is flat and vaccines are bad for you

Cut your losses and sell the car now while there is some value in it. If you leave it another year it’ll be worthless to the point you’d have to pay someone to take it away.

There is absolutely no way this is true.

I can honestly say I have never even considered this when looking at buying a car.

Just pay for 3 months at a time. That way you get 4 discs per year!

People actually check for historical tax discs when buying a used car? Wtf.

I don't think you need to keep the old tax discs. I don't myself but now I'm a bit worried if you are supposed too?

    This is not a thing.

In fact, I've never bought a car with a single valid tax disc...

Of course you don't need to keep them and it will have no effect on value however I have each and every one for my car since new in 08.
Makes no difference now at the age of the car but the original idea was that keeping a full service history and all receipts together with the tax xiscs might convince a buyer that the car was owned by someone who actually cared about it. After all, if you care enough to store the old discs, you'd probably care enough to keep the oil topped up and with the correct spec oil.

Yes you do because if you were selling your car and a wanker buyer decided that the sketchy tax history was something they should be concerned about, you could lose the sale or be forced to drop the price drastically in order to get rid of the car......which has never happened ever.

Sure just photocopy your new disc multiple times and change the dates. Cut them out and stick them in. Be grand.

You should keep the old oil too (in the container the new oil came in) and date the container on the day of the service. Same goes for old oil filters, air filters and spark plugs (if applicable)

I'm not sure about that - keeping tax discs just show the car was probably on the road legally (and you're a hoarder :) ), not that you ever opened the bonnet...

I have a set of old plugs and a set of old pads if that is any good to ya!
I don't keep the used oil but I peel the label off the Mobil 1 can cause it has the spec on it and stick it on the receipt for the oil.
Is that mad enough for ya.

Never understood the logic in keeping the old tax discs or just sticking the new one in front of the old ones on the windscreen. Do people keep their old insurance discs and certs too?

Just make sure to recycle the old ones too. We don't want Greta throwing another tantrum on twitter....

Only reason to keep old tax disks is to look at them and cry for all that dead money.
I like to tear them up in rage being honest
