Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

3 Rules you think would improve the game

Keepers time wasting at kick-outs punished by forfeiting possession to the other side, be it it a corner or a throw-in.
Giving a player a yellow when time is almost up is no punishment at all.

Totally understandable that teams time waste,as the rules don't punish it adequately. Would improve football considerably IMO if cynical time wasting was eradicated.

If the game goes into extra time, two keepers come off and the next goal wins.
    It would be epic!

    Lots of great ideas

You can only sheild the ball if you've touched it. If a player makes an attempt to get the ball and you try to sheild the ball without touching it is obstruction. If you touch it, you can carry on as before.

No more Sheilding the ball out of play, onus on better ball play under pressure.

No more extra time. Straight to penos.

Var offside has 10 seconds and no lines to decide. Quick rew & play at the crucial moment. Decision made. This one is only possible after the mess of this season. If it had been the original rule it would have seemed stupid.

You just open the game to a different set of potential controversy, when one handball is given as a goal whilst another similar one is given as a penalty that gets missed.
Because in the latter case the offending player wasn't quite 'on the line' as you defined the rule, instead he was 2cm ahead of it. Or the ref wasn't 100% sure that the ball was going in regardless.

Anyway, I like that in soccer you have to definitely get the ball over the line to score a goal, I'd hate if it went the way of the penalty try thing in rugby.

I just mean in instances when it is clear that the ball is going in, that Suarez one, it's unfair he was rewarded for cynically preventing a goal in that way, given they've brought in VAR, they could at least check again to make sure.

I'd go less subs, we never get to see outfield players going in goal anymore.

Agree. One gk and two other, like years ago. Reduces the advantages of being rich

I would get rid of draws completely. If a game finishes as a draw then it's penos. there has to be a winner.
    2 points win 0 for a draw
Bonus point for winning by a margin of 3 or more goals (obviously does not count if games goes to penos)

Yellow card = sin bin for 10 mins, 2nd yellow card = red card as it stands.

Crowding out the ref - one of the aspects of the game that I despise most. Ref gives a signal; all players retreat 10 metres within 5 seconds, if they don't, then they get a black card which is 5 mins sin bin.
Only exception is that the captain is allowed to speak to the ref.

Apart from that, it's up to the ref to implement the rules properly, more vigorously, and make it clear to the captain what is going on.
Example: for time wasting in injury time, ref says to captain that he's adding on 3 more mins on top of 5 mins of injury time. If the captain argues, then black card him. FA's need to back the refs up on this.

Refs should be microphoned, if not for TV, then at least for giving evidence at disciplinary tribunals afterwards. Introduce bans for intimidating, threatening, and abusive language. Easy done and the technology is cheap these days. Ban players for 2 matches each time and it'll stop fairly quickly.
