    great positive news

"Mr Hughes said that this could ultimately benefit Ireland's image in the eyes of international markets. "If they actually can make progress and deal in a fundamental way with problems like housing and health that impinge on the economy and broader Irish society that would be something that markets, consumers and businesses would be delighted about," he said."

You can't use a true like for like example, it doesn't fit their narrative!

You pay high taxes in Scandinavia, SF are going to scrap them. Venezuela is prime example what populist government give away can achieve and Scandinavia is an example of responsible taxation of basically everyone. So in that regard SF are closer to Venezuela, none of them are good comparisons though.

the income tax reforms as proposed by SF for "high earners" are a double edged sword. They will hit many here, thievening a living, RTE, politicians, civil servants etc. Its the private sector that could be problematic! just allow these execs reduced income tax rates, like they currently do!

What taxes are SF scrapping exactly? You make it out like they're not going to collect tax at all?

USC, they are against property tax. I already explained in previous posts why I think their tax policy is insane.

Time now for FG to spend a few years on the opposition benches.

It will depend on how long it takes the new coalition to ruin the economy. When FG went down to 31 seats in 2002 they had to wait until 2011 when they got 76. It is a repeated pattern of FF ruining the economy and FG taking it over in its very worst state, and having to rebuild it. I can see the same happening now with SF.

you dont get any of it or just a bit of it? my point is, many here are thieving a living and I am all for them paying higher tax. Basically its the private sector, where its going to be a big problem, oh and for doctors and consultants. Maybe exempt critical state employees from this higher rate. Certainly not politicians!

massively over paid, useless, nearly unsackable if public and civil servants, zero accountability! they are thievening a living! many of them should be paying more tax.

My first time hearing Gino Kelly talk. He doesn’t sound a complete head the ball.

Who are these public servants, is there any specifics or are you just using the old lazy civil servant generalization?

not taking the piss, but FFG usually send more than that up in smoke each budget... At least this benefits primarily working people...

Ah ok. Right, so we should tax the public service high earners more than the private sector earners, or how would that work?

By the way, did you actually read the Sinn Fein manifesto? Because you’re in for a shock when you do!

Jeez Coppinger and Ross on now

Not sad to lose those two

  • Registered Users Posts: 40,062 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Ruth Coppinger and Shane Ross in studio. She sounds good upbeat which is strange.

Voters should be careful what they wish for, Ireland is one of the wealthiest nations on the planet, if you want to see what real poverty looks like take a look at the socialist paradise that is Venezuela.

that may be the case, funny though then isnt it. Appalling infrastructure, boil water notices, sewage over flowing into dublin bay, raw sewage being discharged into rivers and oceans here in 2020. dublins transport network is a disgrace of an unimaginable level. FIFTY percent marginal tax rate that even hits the working poor. This country?
