Dont forget.... Nobody is going to go into government unless they can form 85....maybe 87 seats. Even with the UCD projections, if they're borne out, would be FF/SF coalition of only 82. That wouldn't be a stable government with any chance of lasting 4-5 years

    Students are to blame :pac:

    We have reached peak stupidity.

Not anymore. It's FF - SocDems - Green

    That's a clear majority though
Adding another party would complicate things;)

A five or 10 seat majority is more than ample. 3 would be fine.

The mary cash crowd made sure they got up to vote !
The irony of it all the money fg gave this crowd with last few years only for them to give them the two fingers!
They might think twice the next time they favor them over the working person!

I don't follow, whats the mary cash crowd.

A 6 vote majority isn't a clear majority. It's a recipe for the government collapsing
    You are joking.
A two party govt wouldn't collapse unless one of the parties fully got pissed off and en masse withdrew.

Indeed. Its only a question of the choreography now to see how FF and FG arrange things.
I think it is good for the country.

Really don’t think so. SF are the largest party today. Them not governing would be ridiculous

1/5 for Martin to be Taoiseach are actualy longer odds than 3 weeks ago when he was 1/8 at one stage

Be honest, how many minutes a day do you waste waffling about "the snowflake generation" to bored family and colleagues? Such tripe.

Why u seriously think student really thought out what they were voting for !
We have shinner nearly elected here with 5 children no education , no experience of politics, sued the local county council over her accommodation wasn’t good enough!
    Great country

Mary Mitchell O'Connor has slipped out of the last seat by 20 votes. Would love to see her out.

It may astonish you, and the fellah that quoted Margaret Thatcher up the thread, but not everyone in Ireland votes according to how many pennies they can squander away at the expense of other people. You and all the other fools that vote for FF & FG are dinosaurs who are on the way out.

And yes, before you ask, so very predictably, I do work.

Sinn Fein's economic policies are the worst type of populist clap trap imaginable. Bertie, Charlie Mc Creevy etc back in the early 2000s would be proud

You're aware of the concept of a vote of confidence right? All you need is a few defectors

It depends how disciplined they are and what the chances of by elections are during a term especially around the Euros.

Why ? Its up to the largest grouping of elected TDs that can propose a Taoiseach to govern. Do you not agree with the democratic process as defined in the constitution ?

    Yes, I am aware.
There is always someone to shore it up if it came to it.
It's not difficult to govern in a country this size with a maj of 5 or 6

Of course but as the largest grouping they would be In the strongest position to nominate

List even 3 of these policies with figures

*try doing this without frantically googling as an extra challenge

Is it possible that a second election could be needed and if so, could SF run more candidates?

I'd imagine you'd have a higher turn out in a second election after this shock.

List even 3 of these policies with figures
The two biggest ones - USC abolition €1.2bn, LPT abolition €450m and that's tax revenue foregone.

I would love to eat my words and see them fix the problems of the country. Can't see it though. Think the long term winner of the 3 parties will be the one who stays out of government this time.

List even 3 of these policies with figures

    100,000 social houses - uncosted
electric car charging public infrastructure - uncosted
keeping the retirement age at 65 - uncosted
reducing the tax burden on low earners with regard usc - uncosted.

Defectors in SF would be treated like ISIS treats an Apostate so you don't need to worry about that side of the coalition falling out of line.
