I assume the logic for a vote for FFG is:

FGs problem is pandering, while in government, to people who will never vote for them.
They should protect their core vote and to hell with those who are not FG type
Does Trump try to win Democrats to his side? His priority is to shore up his core vote first.
FG did not do this and paid the price

That's in the past. Ancient history. You can't hold previous unfortunate events against the Black and Tans. Everybody suffered at that time, and the Black and Tans deserve to be remembered as much as anyone else. This is faux outrage.

If a Black and Tan ran for office here I bet you'd hear all the touts for FF and FG moaning about atrocities. As any sensible person would say, 'much the f*** on'. You'd see that the electorate didn't care about what the Black and Tans did if the Black and Tans promised 100,000 homes. They might need to burn a bit of Cork to make it happen, but you don't get omelettes without blowing up some eggs.

    Are you drinking?

I don’t know, how anyone could vote for that shower of ****s with the history of violence they have. Sinn Fein being put into power by a bunch of me feiners who’ll rue the day they voted them in. The country is ****ed with them in government, absolutely ****ed, and that means we’re all ****ed.

I bet you like Mary Lou all the same though, ah she's a great woman.

Right so anyone who doesn't vote FG hasn't contributed to our society? Explain that for me if you can.

So what are they angry about?

The country has not bounced back working class wages are in the toilet.

    Crime is rampant.
Hospitals are like something out of a horror movie.

Many of them probably started on minimum wage. I did. The point is more about reaching the top of their industry and paying so much in tax, that they'd be better off staying at mid-management. The whole point of working yourself so hard is to gain the monetary benefits that such positions bring. If the government is going to hit them for that, then what's the point bothering at all?

I can't imagine many professionals of those levels staying in Ireland if they're taxed so heavily, since SF will be wanting more revenue to fund their extravagant improvements, especially when/if their tax base shrinks. Such professionals are in demand in Europe and Asia. It'll be interesting how many stay to weather the experience. (I'm not talking about those born into money)

Exactly this. I fall into that fold.

I am 30, the recession came when I finished school. I didn’t go to college, I became an apprentice electrician when their was no work. I was a victim of the recession, I worked for 5 years as a sparks but never qualified due to dodgy companies around the time.

I didn’t like that life so I quit. I went back to college as a mature student at 23, I studied 4 nights a week 6-10pm whilst working 5 days 9-5pm. Bare in mind I don’t come from money, I paid my own fees whilst working full time and paying rent.

Since then, I have gone on to do well. I would be considered “wealthy” by SF. I am now doing an evening masters (paying myself) and working full time. Paying rent. I make about 130k a year. I’m a single man from a very low income family.

It feels like all my hard work was for nothing. I already big tax, I don’t have wealthy parents to help me buy a home. I am single, no partner. I can not afford a house on my own, because I pay such high rent still. I work so hard and this sh*t is just so deflating. I work 60 hours a week.

Again, for what? To have it all taken away from me?

There is a stigma to high earners in this country, everyone assumes they come from wealth. That is not always the case.

Sinn Fein will drive a lot of talent out of this country by increasing the already ridiculous tax rates.

Look pal we had a democratic vote if you don't like the results there are places on this Earth that might be more suited to you delicate sense of outrage.

Full employment, lots of housing, strong socialist ideals mixed in with nationalist rhetoric.. hey hey.. free healthcare for all.. a transport system that is not gridlocked!

You were right CinemaGuy45! The socialist way is the right way! This was what we were missing.

There we go again talking down to people telling them what they really meant by their vote.

People voted we count the votes and get a result and proceed from that point end of story.

I don't mean like that, I mean more the largest any party will get is 24% there is no clear majority. The top three are very very close.

I already said I voted for the National Party.

I would never vote for Sinn Fein however I am really enjoying seeing the butt hurt of those who lots their seats.

Well done to you, but don’t worry, SFs power base would not be deserving of a hardworking person such as yourself, they don’t need brains to vote for them, that’s obvious. If I were you, young free and single I’d be outta here to a nice low tax country for 3 to 4 years and make a mint for yourself.

Oh you'd have the Center Party pissing themselves if the far-right got elected. Would be worth it just to see Heinrich Brüning with his tail between his legs. After the way he slashed wages and brought in austerity during the recession? Anything would be better than those weasels.

Ha, that makes the Sinn Fein gauleiters thanking you very funny indeed. While I think the National Party would also be pretty disastrous if elected to government, as their only message was being anti-immigration and pro-nationalist, at least they were a fairly harmless protest vote as they were never going to go anywhere.

been told we should stop talking about SF on boards...its gas:)

close to 50% of people made their mind up on who to vote for, DURING the election.

That means that Boards.ie and social media in general, are officially the influencing platforms of future governments. I could see a huge support in SF in AH over the last few weeks with many many posters defending them; in addition I also saw posters en mass, defending their party of choice- I just slagged off most parties, which is totally different- i haven't seen the "passion" as I saw on boards.ie with people out really "Campaigning" for their own party.

    Interesting times.

FF dragged the country down by virtue of poor leadership and complacency. I don’t remember them ever covering or standing up for or indeed having murderers in their ranks and neither did FG, Labour etc...

The only way Sinn Fein are solving housing is by crashing the economy, which is a distinct possibility.

Crime is crime, are many young people worried about it? Maybe if they didn't consume so much cocaine.....
Health has always been an issue for whatever government has been in.
Again, not usually something young people are overly worried about

So, what are the young people angry about?

Amazing how people are complaining about Sinn Fein and their links to terrorism etc.

How about we look at the terrorism caused by Fianna Fail in the crash. People killing themselves due to actions taken by FF.
    Rate-of-Suicide-per-10000-2005-to-2016.png

And then we have the Fine Gael lads, forcing a whole generation to pay extortionate rents, preventing them from creating a family or moving on with their life.

Right now I'm staring in my room at a ceiling all mouldy, because a landlord has never come to see the house or will not answer calls yet the rent increases 4% every year! The oil boiler leaking fumes for months, potentially leaking carbon monoxide.

    Shameful.

It's absolutely disgraceful how selfish people are to claim people are stupid to vote SF. I've heard people say the young people are just doing it because that's what young people do. Clearly all you people complaining about SF doing well are homeowners with your perfect little corportate job and house bought at a stage where the value of the house has increased now.

Fine Gael and Fianna Fail have completely ruined the lives of a generation in the last decade.
