Its gotten tasty here in Castlebar, well its been tasty for what feels like weeks now, but the cream is rising to the top with Dennis now.
Gonna be a wet and windy one tonight.

Had some Thunder here near Tralee tonight and the winds came up very quickly to over 70 km/h followed by a very heavy squally shower dropping 3mm. Was very windy for about an hour but eased back again.

Can be expecting sporadic thunder especially around the coasts into Monday as cold uppers move in over us. Probably plenty of gusty hail showers tomorrow and becoming wintry with sleet showers.

Windspeeds in Iceland have not been anything special. Max gust today has been 48.5 m/s (175 km/h) at Hellisskarð, southeast of Reykjavik (380 m amsl). It's been an interesting system from an academical point of view, but so far no real impact on land.

Max Gust of over 94 kts, no thanks :)

After a very rocky takeoff, a very lucky and quick glimpse of Ireland's Eye and Howth Harbour this afternoon before it was cloud and rain all the rest of the way to Edinburgh.

Drove Meath to Athlone this evening and no rain
Phew. Drove back tonight and glad to report no rain on the journey.
Sounds like wind is ramping up now. Meath.

Here are Dennis' 6-hourly pressures compared to the 24-hour forecast values, as per the UKMO Fax charts.

Early on it was slightly lower than forecast, but then it bottomed out a little higher. Actual rates of deepening, however, were much less than forecast, with the highest 24-hr drop being 52 hPa instead of the 58 hPa forecast.

Squall passing through Dublin 15 just now, torrential rain driven on sudden high winds.

I was contemplating a drive to Wexford town tomorrow for a match, what do the regulars feel about a) the stupidity or otherwise of the drive b) the fixture proceeding in the first place?

Lashing it down in D15, second heavy downpour in last hour. It seems to have silenced the cretins that were screaming after leaving the local pub just after the first soaking, so thank you Dennis!

I have been watching lighthouse films on youtube ; the 2 hour one on Irish lighthouses was the best by far, especially re Skelligs and Tory Island.

Then watched Fastnet and in a storm... Used to gaze at it from Mizen head . The building of those places...

    Thanks for reminding me.

Got some sleep with the help of heavy duty ear plugs...cannot believe I did that! Got them because of a barking dog.. Could still hear the storm. A day of turmoil ahead.

    Stay safe everyone.

Nothing significant in Tipp this morning. Forecast looks like wind to pick up around 11 so off out on the bike to beat that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,634 ✭✭✭✭Graces7

The wind has started literally screaming now. High-pitched and eerie. Or maybe the banshee has come to visit...Then a few thudding words from it. Smashing rain against the door panel. Today will be.... interesting.... indeed it will.

then it quietens a while.. storm rhythm of a living force.

Its amazing how ignorant some people can be.like the kayakers yesterday.there's an orange warning in progress.lets hope there's no early strong gusts of wind while on that cycle.

Last 2 hours here in West Mayo have seen some very violent winds, rain and lightning. I'll be very surprised if there are no trees down in the locality.

I'd say it's borderline red level warning from galway up to Donegal for the next few hours, some decent convection on the way also.
