No...like an awful lot of people they are pointing out lapses and failures in the handling of this crisis.

That is the DUTY of an opposition.

FG have a duty to caretake under the constitution. They are also doing their duty.

    What lapses and failures?

The operative word that you guys keep missing (intentionally, no doubt) was 'try to form a government of the left'.

No. Inky O Snodaigh was saying it on election count day.

    All outlined in this thread.

They could actually get on with forming a government. I mean they keep going on about what FG are doing wrong and what they would do if they were in charge during this crisis.

LOL, before this all kicked off they weren't arsed forming a governement. All we had was MLM in front of a mega phone ranting and raving. So when there's a massive body of real work to be done there's zero chance of that ever happening.
This government will continue as is and go back to the country when possible. In the meantime SF are an even bigger and more expensive irrelavance.

Is this the YFG junior cubscouts "giving it a rest"?

Harris' furrowed brow and coached delivery didn't impress me 6 months ago, and it doesn't impress me now.

I wish all the frontline staff all the best in the coming weeks. They're the heroes of the piece. Not government ministers reading from script.

In shirt with sleeves rolled up in his pressers.

PR stunts for the naive party faithful.

I agree with you, it is the frontline staff and experts here that deserve the plaudits.

I would be fairly positive their advice was to close pubs from the get go, but they were being told not to go that far by FG.

Only option looks like FF FG and some indos. Very shaky.

Not necessarily. The likes of Michael Lowry and Jackie Healy Rae stuck by the FF/Green government to the bitter end. Once a deal is agreed and the gravy is flowing for their constituents, the parish pump/gene pool indos have every incentive to keep the show on the road

You lads are deluded. How would your score the Hep C scandal, Cervicalcheck scandal etc.?
I'm not saying lay the blame on the door of FF/FG but I wouldn't class their handling of such things as 'professional'. So give over ffs. It's not like the Wolfe Tones would be put in charge of health, thankfully we've Simon Harris, the Journalism and French DIT drop out on the case, very professional ;)

No need to resort to silly insults now that SF are obviously a dead duck. Funny I haven't heard any of ya's droning on about "Change" for the past week or so? That mantra been abandoned then? Now that people will realise it'll all be bad.
Hard for shinners to comprehend I know but we need a stready govenment with a sound fiscal foundation (ie running a surplus) to still pay for all these great people- SF proposed to blow all that immediately so again thank our lucky stars they never bothered forming a govt. Long may it continue ;)

Delusional. FF/FG are not steady and not sound fiscally.

They need 7 very loyal TDs to get to 79.

How loyal could the Healy Raes be? Kerry will suffer badly in terms of tourism.

I think a lot of indos will hurl from the ditch.

How is SF idea to take in 3.8 billion more in taxes looking?

What about their plan to spent an extra 25 billion by 2025?

Looks a total idiotic idea now.

To be fair, they like everyone else didn't see this coming. But we can all see the danger now and its time for SF and other parties to help, not criticise.

Because of the Corona virus? How's the idea of a Paddy's Day parade looking now? Grow up.
It was put forward that we were better off because FF/FG were professional. I put forward young Simon Harris, minister for health to debunk it. FF/FG don't take health seriously. It's seen as the booby prize of ministerial positions.

SF put forward a spending plan for 5 years that assumed growth every year.

They left no room for any downturn.

A total joke of a promise.

I did not vote for SF, but are you saying Leo and Simon have engendered more confidence in the public than SF leaders would in a crisis like this.? I ask because SF leaders would be getting advice from the same senior civil servants that Leo and Simon are getting advice from.

This thread is mad altogether. People looking to blame political parties, points scoring, making out it would be different if others were in power, saying thankfully SF aren’t in power. Really pathetic on all sides. Cop yourselves on, more important things in life.

Yes thankfully Shinners aren’t in power- nothing wrong with that position. It’s perfectly logical. No point pretending otherwise to save MLMs and Pierces fans blushes.

In tatters. It was shocking irresponsibility a month ago. SF and this lunacy are dead in the water now. Long may it continue

And with several serious lapses (that could have been avoided) already and with this crisis only really beginning ^ is just a stock party political broadcast on behalf of FG.

Given this crisis we are lucky that FG have been in power the last few years as they are realistically the only party that would have left the public finances with left over capacity to deal with this rainy day.

There haven’t been any lapses so far. You are not telling the truth. You support SF, that’s fine. Convince yourself FG or whoever would be in power is somehow to blame. You and anyone else) should be ashamed of yourself attempting to politicise the situation.

Banning a rugby match but allowing plane loads of people to come from the infected areas was a 'lapse as was not closing pubs and hotel bars from the start. Having to do it after footage of Temple Bar shennangins emerged was a 'lapse'.

Pubs closing themselves voluntarily around the country is an embarrassment to FG IMO. I think not restricting/strongly advising against travel to our neighbour who are looking to infect people as part of their approach was a lapse too. They were weak at the inter-governmental conference too. If it had been SF blocking an all island approach they would have had no problem being vitriolic in their criticism. Kid gloves for the DUP again...who are putting all of us at risk.

Was the recommendation from dept of health to order closure of pubs etc? How do you stop all those people coming back from cheltenham? How do they prove they were or weren’t at Cheltenham?
Thankfully your opinion, along with that of most people on this thread means less than nothing. Must be a sad sad life you have to spend so much time on here.

Any chance you could deal with the 'lapses' I outlined?

I think btw the absence of a strong directive to those going to Cheltemham was a lapse as well.

Since they have gotten their act together and issued strong directives/advice not to travel to other European countries many many holidays and trips have been cancelled.

It is so representative of the entitlement culture and the Sinn Fein way of doing things that you are calling on the government to baby the people. No personal responsibility is assumed, just like on every other policy.

Pub owners in Temple Bar and the irresponsible people who crowded into them are the ones responsible for putting over 100,000 people out of their jobs. There were many pubs and restaurants which had developed work-around that could have lasted another week or two, but as usual the prevailing selfish “ourselves alone” culture took over.

Every single pub in my town knew the government directive was unworkable.

They had shut down voluntarily before the government changed it's mind.

Clear example of a disingenuous post.

Technically, through the inclusion of FF in the sentence, the poster can claim that it is true. This is because of what FF did in 2008, and many times previously, including the period after 1977.

However, the statement does not apply to FG, who despite other faults, have never been anything but sound fiscally when in government. It is the deliberate use of FF/FG that is key to understanding what is being done.

The sentence could be used in a textbook to explain disingenuous.

Speak for the people you live, work and socialise with, don’t speak for all of us, many of the rest of us had the ability, sense and intelligence to respect the social distancing protocols.

So they'll change that plan I'd imagine. You know that's how people operate right?
Enda says the "savage" USC will be abolished

Again, Harris was put forward as a professional as regards looking after the Corona virus. He's a Journalism, French DIT drop out. Just pointing that out.
