Where is Leo? Coveney and Harris have been on the airwaves constantly since this started but little or nothing since his Washington jaunt.

Given this crisis we are lucky that FG have been in power the last few years as they are realistically the only party that would have left the public finances with left over capacity to deal with this rainy day.

And the health, housing, homeless crises? Irrelevant? They haven't gone away you know.

Again, Harris was put forward as a professional as regards looking after the Corona virus. He's a Journalism, French DIT drop out. Just pointing that out.

Harris has more years experience as a Minister than the whole of the Sinn Fein political party put together. That says a lot more about their suitability than his.

P.S. Is Harris your latest bete noire? You seem to be hung up on his qualifications these days.

FG won't make the mistake of handing FF a strong economy - if there is going to be another election they want to ensure that Sinn Fein inherit only ashes.

Of course they did. But anyone with an ounce of real life experience knows what happens when people consume alcohol, in pubs designed to attract the young.

Publicans themselves knew this and began to voluntarily close. The government had to play catch-up. Fairly clear that is what happened.

Who in their right minds would want another election in the forseeable future? An emergency national government needs to be formed ASAP.

Did he roll up his sleeves to give the impression to that he was taking a break from surgery to deal with the meddlesome media in the presser last night? :)

    Remember Leo and the jacket?

Current cabinet are experienced and playing a blinder. Why rock the boat and waste precious time/energy with newbies that can't find the office WIFI code? Continue as we are and another election in the Autumn to let the people decide and reflect who best to steer the country through uncertain times.

SF won't be inheriting anything. Except seat losses.

Ah, you finally admit that Sinn Fein don’t stand for change, glad we cleared that up.

Current cabinet had health and housing in such a state that they only managed to get 20% of the vote and several of them lost their seats.

As an inept minister in a caretaker government.

P.P.S. I'm responding to a poster suggesting we had professionals in charge. You are either not reading the thread or pretending you don't know.

Poor shinners. Still living out past glories and living under past assumed realities and fighting old wars. Things have changed, changed utterly. The SF fantasy of a month ago has melted away, like April snow. We are in a new reality now. Seems to be taking SF a long time to catch up which isn't very inspiring for the ability to deal with and tackle new realities. But the rest of us knew that would be the case already.

FG loyalists really are weirdos. There's no two ways about it.

    Yet for point scoring purposes....

Reading the very luke warm belief SF fans have here in even their own parties ability deliver anything must be a worry. The best they can muster is attack the current cabinet over past shortcomings. The kind of SF patriotism one would expect in a national crisis!

You'll need to explain what you are on about there tbh. Sounds like you have played out a fantasy in your head with white horses and Braveheart style tropes.

The latest polling on Sunday sees SF still on 35% and FG getting a small bounce and FF falling still.

Odd bunch. Says a lot about their party when all they have in their arsenal is 'SF would be worse'. Thankfully the electorate disagree.
Shame they can't say that about their kissing cousins in FF having partnered with them and likely going to make it official this time and get down on one knee.

Bless. Insult and belittle when you've ran out of things to say? Do i care what you think of me? No, i couldn't give two ****s! But am i delighted, relieved and thrilled you lot are not in power right now? Absolutely. An long may it continue to be that way. The country is the priority and the health, prosperity and future of our great people.

You mean criticise the government on it's record in government? The thoughts :)

    The crisis has only started.

Election in Sep/Oct so we can all vote which party has the best austerity plan. Budget deficit of around 6-10billion incoming. So it's only fair we all get an election.

Well seen as we have absolutely zero evidence SF would be better that's more than enough for me. In fact we can look North only to comapre and contrast- or is that not really a governement at all?
Must be very frustrating for SF anarchists to see the performance of the FG governement in crisis mode as clearly you'd sooner see the country go down the toilet to score political points. What a sad, bitter bunch of "patriots" indeed.

    Exactly...it has only started.
while we don't know 'from experience' what SF would be like in a government where the other partner is not diametrically opposed to it (mostly just for the sake of being opposed) we do know what this government is like.

At the moment they are getting a bounce because of the oncoming crisis...are you sure they will have the capacity to meet the electorates expectation when the novelty wears off and people are on the breadline and facing hardships?

Will we see a return of the uncaring arrogance or are FG miraculously reformed by the virus?

Yep. We know FG will turn the public finances around.

SF will just spend too much. If they were in power the last 4 years the books wouldn't be balanced.

Hmmm...seems to me that the public were none too impressed at who it cost to 'balance the books'.

    Indeed.

Just like in 97 and the electorate voted in Bertie.

    How did that work out?

Sorry, seems the day of 'better the devil you know' are on the way out. We expect quality and value for tax payer money. That leaves FF/FG in a tough situation.
Comrade, the public are moving aware from brown envelopes and brown shirts. Don't be bitter. It's a good thing.

They voted in FG? Who so pissed off the electorate that the power swap party's vote share fell even further?

    How did that work out?

The same ones later voted in Enda? What's your point? They only make the right decision if it's one you agree with? That's not how democracy works my friend.

SF would last about 6 months. :)
