The technical problem continues to be reflected in these numbers but has been fixed so tomorrow could look a bit ugly.

Town was crazy today, people definitely seem to have forgotten that a relaxing of rules doesn’t mean things have gone away. Wasn’t comfortable at all in there.

    Silly season doesn't help

Just so crowded. Doesn’t feel comfortable at the moment , and while the outdoor crowds maybe aren’t so bad it was also very busy in City Square, queues on top of each other etc.

Yep, for about 15 minutes in total in town. Went in to try support some local shops, saw the crowds, grabbed a few essentials and left. Didn’t queue for any shops that were busy. It’s just a worry about what will happen in a few weeks time and how Christmas will pan out. No need to go on the attack.
Also, just for anyone like me trying to avoid crowded places I was just letting people know that town is extremely busy, I didn’t expect it to be quite so full today.

To be fair we went in specifically to pick up some items from Penneys and left rather promptly too. Very crowded store. Far too many people clearly not following any guidelines including a sizeable contingent of the travelling community (known to be sources of outbreaks across the country) gathered near the top of the stairs without a mask between them.

The Festive period could get very ugly for CoVid numbers I think.

I'm not on the attack, but it's like sitting in traffic and complaining about the traffic. You are the traffic.

Or sitting in traffic when you weren’t aware of roadworks, and turn around half way before you get to the top. Without going into town today there was no way of knowing how busy it was, we went in to try support some local businesses, saw how busy it was and left. Was just saying what we saw was a worry for the weeks to come, and also wanted to give a heads up if people were unsure about whether things would be busy or not.

It’s not a big issue, I won’t be in town again at the weekends before Christmas now I’ve seen it today but just a comment on what I saw today.

I was in town today from 330 - 7 & I have to say yes it was busy but crowds were fine, didn't feel unsafe, queues were fine & moved fast. The atmosphere was fantastic & its definately what is needed..

It was nice and busy yesterday. Though was in the book centre and it's really hard are getting around in there when it's busy. People standing on the middle of stairway, standing in aisles for a chat. Can't handle that lack of courtesy and self awareness.

    Err Emm, you are attacking!

We 'll more than likely be locked down again in January, humans are displaying their normal behaviour during silly season, expect numbers to rise significantly due to this behaviour, but I guess, at least it 'll help the economy!

Nice to see crowds around town the last couple of days. Life feels normal again, if only for a few weeks. One thing that is hard to get away from is how utterly depressing the town actually is.

All I saw was Penneys and Michael Guineys bags in peoples hands. The queue for Penneys yesterday must have been 50 people long when I walked past. Winterval, although a nice idea and it’s creates a bit of a buzz around, is total rubbish. What’s on offer? A few hotdog stands and a chap selling knock off beanie hats from a fold up table outside Supermacs? The whole thing is very disjointed and yes while it’s great that people are making an effort, I forgot how crap Winterval actually was.

Waterford badly needs new shops in the centre of town. We all know it but at this time of year it just becomes so much more apparent. Between my wife and I, we bumped into 10 or 12 people we knew and hadn’t seen in months. Everyone, us included, were in to have a look around and to spend some money locally and pick up some bits and pieces for Christmas. Everyone said “there’s nothing here only Penneys”. Is that what we’re reduced to as a town? Queuing like dogs for cheap socks and underpants from Penneys? What an embarrassment.

As welcome as the upcoming vaccines are does anyone else think that the timing of the press releases by all companies does not bode well for the upcoming festive period? General perception of the vaccines looming large on the horizons may lead to guards being dropped left right and centre. Realistically there is still quite a bit of time to live with Covid before the world can be declared "normal" again.
It appears some people are gonna approach Christmas as if were a usual run of the mill one. Take a look at the photos of Henry Street in Dublin yesterday. Ditto any main street in any Irish town. It's only the 6th of December so it's only gonna get busier throughout the country. Also factor in the open country travel pass from the 18th for a couple of weeks.
Seasonal socialising over the next month will probably place the country in an difficult situation come January. Hands up who thinks the HSE can oversee a seamless and successful vaccine roll out during 2021? I would not be the biggest NPHET fan but I kinda share their apprehension re. Christmas. Hopefully it won't turn into some sort of perfect storm. Don't want to get shot with the finishing line in sight. Stay safe.

Good to see the City council's 'Visit Waterford' PR Rep voicing his positive opinions online. Yer doing a wonderful job!!
Obviously you walk around with your eyes closed and your opinions narrowed. If it's such an embarrassment jump in yer 4x4 and spend your money in KK, Cork or Dublin. You won't be missed locally....

I agree. When I hear people telling us to "spend local", all I can think is - where?!

Exactly. Where are people meant to shop? I’m in my mid 30s and there is nothing apart from an overpriced Tommy Hilfiger, Heroes and Tony Roche’s for me. Three men’s shops in a major city in Ireland is shocking no matter what way people want to try and dress It up (pardon the pun). There aren’t many options available for those of us who don’t shop in Penneys or Guineys.

For those complaining that I’m being negative, change my mind for me. Tell me how I can support local shops when there are no options to do so? By the way, Penneys isn’t local.

The north quays should bring many more brands into the region, it's something that doesn't truly bother me though, I'm not much of a shopper.

Vaccine news is incredible though, I didn't expect it this quickly, but I do realise it 'll take a long time to roll out, I'm not expecting myself to be vaccinated till maybe this time next year, it's still an amazing global achievement though

What has this got to do with COVID-19?

Ye bumped into 10 or 12 people ye knew but you were utterly depressed because of the shops the bags people were carrying were from? I think it is fair to say that not much in life brings joy to you if you meet 10 or 12 people but are made depressed by shop bags.
