And while you are at it focus on the deaths for suicide, road traffic accidents, cancer, alcohol abuse, heart disease, strokes over the past 6+ months since the dreaded Covid came onboard.

Why don't you focus on those things? You keep posting about them in this thread so, why don't you create a separate thread so you can really focus on those matters?

I'd say some are secretly delighted that we're going into level 3

Its not like we have 50+ cases a day

Oh yeah, I'd say there's loads of people *secretly* rubbing their hands together with glee at the prospect of a winter lockdown.

I agree, so true and Covid deaths are in addition to these things but as far as I know none of the mentioned causes of death are contagious.

Cases per thousand wont decrease tomorrow but 40 cases to drop in the next 4 days so if they stay low over those days we should be ok, fingers crossed!

    Huh?

I really wish people would just name who they are referring to.

I was playing golf earlier and i was not on the tee or the green or in the rough, so where was I?

Oh yeah its better to forget about all those other "non contagious" deaths these past 6 months and all the other collateral damage of this pandemic and focus on the Covid bubble  Keep that narrative going and forget about everything else. Ireland is sleep walking into meltdown both economically & socially. The old are told to cocoon and stay indoors and the young are being told not to socialise. Unemployment is rising. Businesses are closing. The expert scientists are giving conflicting information every day. Every day is a turning point. "The next 10 days are critical" etc etc. The numbers will double if you lot dont do what your told. Dont meet anyone. Stay at home. NPHET are ruling (and ruining) our country.

There are definitely those would would rather continue to work @ home ad infinitum. Public servants particularly. No travel costs. No childcare. Less work to do. Payrise on the way. Dont say it aint true;)

As someone who worked from home while trying to look after a toddler it is not something I ever want to do again, no matter how much I'd save on childcare

All wars have casualties and this pandemic is no different, you are great at knocking the Government and NPHET but don't post any alternative advice on solving the problem. Ask yourself could it be the selfless people who think the restrictions don't apply to them be part of the continuing rise in cases.

Donegal being moved to level 3 restrictions but Waterford being given more time, hopefully the coming days will see low numbers for us and we go in the right direction

We should be okay as the DAWN MEATS based cluster drops off the back of the moving 14 day tally.

So, is that a no to creating a thread about those issues? Seems strange considering how concerned you claim to be.

I work in the public sector and there was never and will never be an option for me to work from home. What payrise? Genuinely, I'd love to know if I'm due a payrise as I've heard no such thing.

Everyone in there was being retested today. So fingers crossed we see no significant fresh numbers tomorrow or Saturday.

I imagine it's these results that will sway the government on which status we'll deserve.

Good to see reduction alright and yep bloody hope it continues, donegal going to level 3, if we don't keep on top of things, we'll be going to level 3, the last few days of small numbers have saved our bacon, for now.

No cases yesterday on gov.ie. This change in the reporting is not making them look good when the number the next day is different.

Map updated. Was just the Tramore strip red now its all red east of it.

Typically terrible graphic - there are only 6 zones so why not use 6 colours rather than shades of a 1970's sofa.

That would be the city and tramore according to map so still too close, we need to get rate down further, right down.

It's not just tramore, a good part of the city centre is in it, ferrybank, O'Connell street, etc

They were discussing the incidence rate on WLR, stated that's it now around 86, that's a drop form 97 yesterday, going in the right directions it seems, but still on a knife edge

Its very easy to knock the Government/NPHET based on their performance to date specifically since the onset of Summer and the change in regime. They let their guard down and told us all to take a staycation. Meanwhile some of them broke their own rules and flew abroad (Chariman Bord Failte) and the less said of the Clifden Golf Jolly Boys outing the better!

Do you really thing the communication from the new Government has been clear & concise? Do you have any faith in the Stephen Donnelly (Min for Health) with his off kilter remarks? These people were elected (not necessarily have a mandate from the people) and are paid very, very well to make these decisons? In fact they are getting a 2% pay rise from next week and that probably flew under the news radar with the focus on Covid.

Solutions? Well TBH the Government did not act in time back in March; it allowed all those Italian rugby fans to come over for a weekend even though the match was postponed (and where was the Covid hotspot in Europe @ the time:rolleyes:); it allowed 30,000 race fans to travel over to Cheltenham (again the UK was trying out herd immunity!); and flights from the US continued unhindered (it was not possible to travel from Texas to New York but you could travel from Texas to Dublin!)

We are an island, albeit with two jurisdictions & no border, and could have managed the situation a lot better. We could easily have gone for a "zero Covid" strategy. Have a look at New Zealand, similar population to us and their figures are : 1,829 cases with 25 deaths!

So to answer your question : I think it is justifiable to challenge and criticise the Government based on the above. Unfortunately in the present climate it seems that you are considered treasonous if you challenge the official view as outlined by NPHET & the Govt. Sadly, we are only 6 months into this crisis but there are dark times ahead because of the path these people are leading us down. I believe in time people will question why we allowed a bunch of unelected professionals dictate Government policy. I heard Micheal Martin on the radio last weekend and he stated that Govt take NPHET's advice and apply it unilaterally. Meanwhile FFs approval rate has fallen to 19%. People will eventually break. Social unrest in on the horizon for the first time since the formation of the State mark my words.

criticism of a government is easy, for those of us not doing the job, there has been of course many mistakes made, this is inevitable, as this is an extremely rare event, nobody was truly ready for it, even though we were warned of it. more mistakes will be made, and yes, other countries will do better, but this is a really difficult and dynamic situation, we re still trying to figure out this virus, even though we re learning fast. social unrest was also gonna be inevitable, even without this virus, it has already begun around the world

Yeah, that is a real concern. I think we are approaching a limit on the restrictions people can take. For example, people in their twenties are being branded as selfish for going to house parties. I think it is more complicated than that. In your twenties it is in your nature to be out and about socialising. I think a limit on what they can take has been passed. When I was in my twenties if one Saturday passed and I did not go out it seemed like a disaster. People in their twenties now have been expected to stay home since March!

to be honest, i think most are pi$$ed off at this stage, we re just not use to these kind of restrictions, and the world is far from normal, and wont be for a long time, i think a slow move towards the approach of other countries is worth trying now

O'Connell Street and the surrounding streets being where a large number of employees from a certain meat plant reside.
