Yeah, that is a real concern. I think we are approaching a limit on the restrictions people can take. For example, people in their twenties are being branded as selfish for going to house parties. I think it is more complicated than that. In your twenties it is in your nature to be out and about socialising. I think a limit on what they can take has been passed. When I was in my twenties if one Saturday passed and I did not go out it seemed like a disaster. People in their twenties now have been expected to stay home since March!

Exactly. The population, regardless of age, but especially the young can only be told to restrict their lives only so much without there being a backlash. If I missed a night out in my peak going out years I would have felt I was missing out! Yet today young people are not only missing out on socialising, but are missing out on having a normal segue into College life or work life. Lecture from home? Working from home? = social isolation which feeds into anxiety and growing mental health issues. This generation will find it hard to cope and find jobs.

At the other end of the scale the older generation are being told to lock themselves away and not see anyone. Sadly, I have read stories that a sizeable proportion do not see the logic behind this and would rather not live than exist in this kind of society.

You can only push people and restrict their lives so much before something gives. Incidents of social unrest will begin to grow the longer the pandemic goes on. Especially when the Government money starts to run out. I accept that this is a once in a lifetime event but we cannot under estimate the potential of things turning sour on our streets. The cracks are already beginning to appear. The line is being held but a large swathe of the population is fit to burst.

    Dystopian melodrama isn't much help.

I just wish Me-Hole would stop talking about Waterford as if it were Lifford.

The last two days our figures have eased, so are we in for a jump today or tomorrow, seems odd that we’re still being mentioned

Does he ever look into his own back yard and see that Cork's numbers are rising pretty quickly this past week? Nair a mention in the media. Or does he suffer from that atypical People's Republic myopia that they are all so great down there in the real capital?? I sincerely doubt he would be so quick to tell his own kind that they must restrict their lives. It will be very interesting to see how he deals with that? Or is Cork a covid free zone??

Corks incidence rate has been climbing as you say, but it’s still only 30 something when I checked yesterday. Waterford’s was just shy of 100.

Its so hard trying to do the right thing when you're blatantly seeing people break the restrictions and that goes for all ages (not just teens and young people)

Its on personal responsibility and ill do what I can in terms of mask wearing, hand washing, social distance etc.

Anyone have any clue how the city lockdown Meholes trying to push will work? LEA's seem a bit unfair, given Tramore say, is in one of the highest LEA's in the country, but doesn't seem to have any cases itself (My logic being with the amount of school children in the town, if it was that widespread, some school would have reported a case). Or are there clearly city boundaries or something? Other hand, city lockdowns would be more fair on some poor fecker from Lismore say, getting locked down cos of the city

It's not just tramore, a good part of the city centre is in it, ferrybank, O'Connell street, etc

Was referring to the LEA's the area that covers city and tramore is called tramore waterford city. But yep know is all over the place.

NPHET-Gov didnt bother thinking that far ahead. It would be far too sensible an approach. Take the situation here in Waterford a couple of miles across the bridge and you are in a different county : Kilkenny. Yet most of South-KK work, school, shop and commute to Waterford. Just take a look @ the Ferrybank DC any morning.
The only saving grace about any prospective Level 3 restrictions is that they will not be policed as rigorously as the national Lockdown a few months back. Heard a Garda on the radio saying they dont have the power. The Govt is only advising ppl to stay within the county. There is no legal requirement to stay with county bounds. Goes back to personal responsibility again.

Surely there is no justification now for shutting Waterford City or County. Less than 5 again.

Less than 5 cases is grand, when are the second batch of DAWN MEAT tests due back I wonder.

    -1 was yesterdays number

Taoiseach Micheál Martin issued the warning as he said there was rising concern over the increasing rate of Covid-19 detections in major urban centres in Cork, Limerick, Waterford and Galway.

We know that! And he is wrong about Waterford as based on the last number of days.

They were tested last Friday the 18th with only a few positives. All tested again yesterday afaik.

He knew Waterford people don't it when they're not mentioned along with the other cities.

Waterford could very easily have been put into restrictions the other day but we weren’t, remember Laois was in local restrictions last month when it’s rate was 69 whereas we weren’t this week when our rate was close to 100.

So I think people need to take off the tinfoil hats if they think the government is anti-Waterford when it comes to covid (giving funding for capital projects might be a different matter however).

Absolutely wrong. They are making it up as they go along. Colleges moving to online classes from Monday for 2 weeks. Social events too! (You could not make that last bit up!) Herr Harris announced that @ 4pm Friday afternoon effective immediately. Those kids that missed out on their last bit of schooling, then sitting their Leaving Cert only to receive results from the clouds, are now going to a virtual college (and can do so from their bedrooms). This two weeks will soon morph into months.

The future is always uncertain. Always was always will be. So it's good that the Government stumbles and bumbles it's way along? We are on the about the second or third phased plan level at this point.

what options do they have, if we cannot accurately predict the future, again, pandemics are extremely rare, we literally have nothing to go on here, theyre doing the best they can, they will of course make mistakes, some will be serious mistakes

Think about the psychological damage being caused. Or is that just some minor afterthought in the grand scheme of things? Education requires face to face interaction. If we were to follow your lead why not have the schools switch to online classes? That would reduce the Covid risk even further! And as a result those daily numbers would probably tumble too. We could all be the teachers pet!

our psychological needs are rarely thought about at all, so theres nothing new there
