A Hat Trick for the Blues! :D
    1. Waterford once again has the lowest incidence per 100k in the country for the past 2 weeks as @ 11/10/20;
    2. Waterford has also the lowest positivity rate by county for the past week;
    3. Waterford has the third lowest number of cases in the country over the past 2 weeks.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/2020/1012/1170892-coronavirus-ireland/

Given that the Govt's approach to future lockdowns will be on a regional or county basis according to the Taoiseach these figures bode well for the Deise. If anything we should be looking forward to reverting to dropping down a Level perhaps? All positives for the county nonetheless.

We will leave all the negativity to the macbre ghouls and fortune tellers who wish to prophecise a gloomy Winter ahead!

Yup all good news that Waterford is doing well.

But it was only 2 and a half weeks ago that we had the third worst rate in the country so things can change very quickly, so calling people ghouls or doom merchants for being worried about winter is hardly helpful!

Just keep what we’ve being doing and we’ll be better than most.

    Ahem....
Dunno why people are so obsessive about these numbers, daily incidence rates, cases per whatever. If you must, than focus on the death rate FFS. And while you are at it focus on the deaths for suicide, road traffic accidents, cancer, alcohol abuse, heart disease, strokes over the past 6+ months since the dreaded Covid came onboard.

The spike in numbers was if a particular nature and was dealt with effectively so we were never likely to be dragged into the mire of community transmission. The media hype was misplaced in that respect.

Front page of the n&s this week still hanging onto that hype

42 cases in 4 days is hardly hype now is it?

Maybe a bit of positive news about covid in Waterford would be to much to ask from a local paper?

Exactly, how is the truth hype.

Waterford actually had 4 cases in the reported numbers yesterday and another 7 cases in today’s numbers

Wexford over 60 which is a little concerning given the traffic between the two.

edit - GAA county final partying. Two clubs, one in the north one in the south both with cases following.

Hype was a wrong choice of word, scaremongering is what I meant.

Unfortunately there isnt much positivity in the numbers lately, we thought we had zero cases yesterday but that turned out to be 4, and now another 7 today, that brings us up to 53 cases now in the last 6 days. I guess when we look at Wexford having more than that in one day, then maybe could be seen as a positive but essentially we are still increasing our numbers on a daily basis, albeit at a slower rate, but they are going in the wrong direction.

How is reporting the numbers scaremongering? Not reporting the number wold be irresponsible but some people don't want that information to be out there for some reason.

I though that story was about the Mayor who is also the Covid officer with Dungarvan GAA Club and his handling of the recent situation re GAA Covid guidelines and the events that occurred re the Co.Final. How is that scaremongering?.

Is the yellow and black headline really needed though, how about Waterford having the lowest incidence per 100k in the country for the past 2 weeks that's positive news be nice to see on the front page.

"There were no Covid patients in Critical care at UHW and one critical care bed was available at the hospital."

Waterford has no Covid patients in ICU and there are 44 potential ICU beds available in the new wing if required, which they won’t be.

So don’t pay any attention to media or rumour reports that there’s no beds in Ardkeen, because there is plenty.

Is that new unit fully kitted out, and sufficient staff numbers ready for immediate deployment, if needed?

I’m glad someone on boards has confirmed the number of icu beds available. That HSE report has nothing on this place

The new wing is being used for out patience to keep them out of the main hospital.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Its all there under U for UHW and not A for Ardkeen.

Its one thing having beds available but I can assure you, there isn't staff or equipment available for "44 potential ICU beds" as you put it.

Where are you getting your figure of "44 potential ICU beds"? Do you have any idea how many staff are required to "man" one ICU bed?

    No.

Still the top of the Covid League table though:D Maybe the N+S should highlight that fact for a change.

We are @ 66.3 per 100k... meanwhile upstairs Cavan Monaghan & Donegal are @412.2, 354.9 and 312.8 respectively. I am not a statistician but I think we might be doing a "little" better than a lot of counties??;) Some folk are never satisfied...

During the summer the French Government had to retrofit passenger trains to make them suitable to transfer patients across the country to regions which weren't as badly affected by COVID.

Imagine the consternation in Ireland if we ran out of beds in a region - and the French have world class health infrastructure.

Even in the height of the crisis (so far) this spring we never ran out of beds.

...but are we burning out our health care workers?

I agree with what you are saying but I genuinely think people are getting caught up with these league tables, the facts are that numbers are increasing quicker now then they have been in months, just because we aren’t as bad as others doesn’t mean things can’t or won’t go bad here for us too. I’ve seen people say that we should reduce Waterford level back to 2 or even 1, how quick would you think our numbers would increase then?
