Both - it loses quite a bit in translation even though the message is essentially the same, and the German version has a bit more grit to it because of the fact German is harder on the ear... I know it's a pop song either way, but given the subject matter I like that the original gives it just a bit more gravity.

Great to see 99 Luftballons make it so far in this competition, but really there's no contest here, I have to go with Kurt Cobain and the lads. Had they been up against Fleetwood Mac in the final rather than the semis, it might have been a different story here.

Nena - Easy choice for me. A wonderfull song, only really started to like it since these contests began. Was never much of a Nirvana fan, though I do think they were hughly influencial and it all started with this song. However, over the years, I've started to like it less and less. So, Nena it is for me.

If it wasn't for Nirvana my formative years would have been very different, I don't think it's overstating it to say they had a part in molding who I am today. And Smells Like Teen Spirit may not be my, or many people's, favourite of theirs but it's their most iconic. Definitely gets my vote

Nirvana for me please. This was one of my nominations in the 90's category and is a far superior song to Nena's.

99 Luftballoons. Love them both so flipped a coin. Won't be cross if either wins.
