FWIW the stream was brilliant. Replays were great. Ground camera angle was great.

Really pleased with the win in Ballybofey.

If only we could get some home form, we'd take some stopping!

I do believe the plastic pitch at the Brandywell is killing us.

Wasn't too much in it now, fairly end to end. we moved more and more to hoofball as it went on, which frankly just played more and more to your hands.

On pitches/home form, Feel I could say the same for us on the narrow Finn park pitch... Could understand it a few years ago, but we have the players now to really exploit the space & it's hampering us.

    Shels 1 Wexford 0.

Never looked like scoring a second goal. Had a few half chances. Never looked like conceding either.

Obviously the table doesn't lie and Wexford aren't a great side but I think they've been a tough opponent for us this season. Have been well organised and defended well in both games. You'd miss the free scoring reds. Anyway league table looks great.
Wexford looked improved from the game earlier in the season, looked mostly composed and played some nice stuff at times which you would have to put down to Ian Ryan. It may have been the worst performance of the season from Shels coming off our 3 best performances but it's another very important 3 points

Liam Coyle was saying on commentary last night that your pitch is now probably best in the league, or at least equal to Tallaght.

Far cry from the pitches you used to have. Jez it used to either be like a ploughed field or a beach.

Only caught the first half of Wexford - Shels but the coverage was quality and the commentator did a great job on his own.

It's gas how we've only scored two in two games against against Wexford yet put seven past Bray, and beaten Galway 4-0 and UCD 3-1.

I'm biased but I think the best surface is at the RSC, and for a couple of years now.

We'd probably be better off having a bog at the moment though.

When patching returns to Dúndalk, have you a replacement? (you could have Zahibo, or Han, or Junior, wirh Abibi thrown in :))

Cork City's best performance in 2 years last night. First away win since August 2019. Completely dominant and never in doubt. Delighted with the fight and the display.

On a side note, Athlone's stream was unreal. Multi-camera set up, replays, fantastic on screen graphics. Tremendous.

There was drainage work done a few years ago, and I think the breaks/late starts with covid combine with the general groundwork have all combined to do wonders for it... But still not sure I'd go that far!

Hardybuck, was down in the RSC for our game a few weeks ago, you're pitch is quality alright! Stand badly needs a power wash though!

Awful game too. Worrying form the past few games. We don't look like scoring anymore.
The main problem with the coverage from Derry is the camera director is using the zoomed in camera for most of the game and it's a horrible way to watch the game. You have no idea of the shape of a team or where teammates are when they zoom in so much on the player with the ball.

Mikey Drennan is Cork City's top target. Plenty of money there to spend so going big.

Excellent performance second half. First half was a bit shaky but Coughlan's cracker helped us take control of the match and we got two great goals in the second half before Harps scored. Our 4th goal was a thing of beauty, fantastic pass from Forrester picked out a super run by Lewis who lobbed the goalie superbly. Lewis was magnificent, we really really need to keep him. Coughlan had an excellent game and took his goals brilliantly and set up Benson for our second with a great pass. It's been very good since the mid season break.

Where's the money coming from? The takeover fell through even though hemming did pay a few bills for them so they could stay in business.

Drennan's hasn't kicked a ball in senior football for 2 years and wasn't pulling up trees when he last played for Pats.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,254 ✭✭✭joeysoap

A few weeks ago Rovers were allowed to take a throw- in 30 yards from where the ball went out.( and subsequently scored) Tonight Dundalk had a throw- in retaken because the throw-in was taken 3 feet from where the ball went out. Nothing special about except
    A) the Dundalk player was booked
    B) it was the same referee

Consistency is all we ask of referees. We KNOW that Hennessy gives pens at the drop of a hat and McLoughlin doesn’t.

Rovers not good. Nothing offered down the left and midfield disjointed with McCann in there. Watts and Kavanagh important to get back.
    joeysoap wrote: »

He will only allow a blade of grass gained on a throw over his dead body now. Though it wasn't 30 yards

City made a massive profit last year. High six figures. Money isn't a problem down here anymore. Budget wasn't available for Colin back in December but it is now after some refinancing.

Very disappointed with our (Drogheda) result last night.

We started great and competed well throughout. We just lack a little quality at times but that is expected given that a lot of the lads are young and many haven't played PD before.

I felt that our keeper could have had a stronger hand for the header for their goal. Either catch it or parry it further from the goal. He is costing us goals/points lately but he is only 20.

Delighted with the season so far. We play some lovely football at times and if we can keep the manager and develop those younger players, we will have a team that can compete rather than just survive.

But we'll take survive for now!!

Eddie Nolan looks to be signing for Waterford. That would be three ex Ireland Internationals they'll have. Something that if other clubs could do it would be a good thing.

Rovers have been pretty bad all season, if you ask me. Watts is definitely missed. I had this suspicion about Bradley for a good while now: he's not that good of a manager/strategist and the emergence of Jack Byrne and Aaron McEneff saved his ass and actually made him look like a decent manager. Before those came along, Rovers were in the sh1t, with the fans totally on Bradley's back.

At times in the 2 matches vs us they battered us, the late goals were coming.

Assumed they were playing like that vs everyone.

In fairness the two Murphy's would have been two of the best players in their respective positions that the LOI has had over the last decade. Both excelled in the LOI with Waterford, had good careers in the UK, and have come home to finish where they started.

Eddie has just finished up a loan in the Scottish Premiership and it's nice to see him finish at home too after a career up and down the UK. Showed a huge amount of early potential, got four Ireland caps, but faded away when Sam Allardyce replaced Mark Hughes at Blackburn. Preston paid something like £900k for him when he was 20, but thing's just didn't quite work out for him.

Would be nice to see more internationals start and/or finish their careers in the LOI.

I wouldn't be happy if Sligo Rovers were wasting our money on 38 year old strikers just because they played for Ireland at one time. More has to go into it than just signing a guy because of his pedigree and what he did years ago. I don't think Murphy has even scored a goal since returning and doesn't seem to be involved at all now.

Nolan looks like he'll be a good addition though. Only 32 and has been playing at a decent level in Scotland and England up until recently.

It's not as if the league is laden down with quality strikers. I think most clubs would take a punt on a proven goalscorer who is playing in League 2. Imagine the fanfare if Wes Hooligan came back to play.

In Daryl's case he has struggled with fitness but that the risk you take.

Fair enough. I obviously wasn’t there. The ball went out in front of the cameras, the throw-in was off camera. Tallaght is a big pitch. So the leopard had changed his spots, no harm we see players taking yards everyday at throw-Ins.

He may have been booked for time wasting. in which case he should book himself ( for his long talk to Massey. Whatever that was about. No drogheda players were booked.( quite rightly) )

looking forward to bringing my son to his first Shelbourne game on Friday v Cork City.

I looked back through the records and I think the first Shels game I was at was 1v1 Galway on 3/1/92. My friends dad brought me to the game, I think I was a lucky charm that season as Shels won their first league title in 30 years. .

Oddly enough, my dad took me to see Manchester United v Manchester City later on that year (my first United game) and United won the league for the first time in 26 seasons that season.

I'd be the same. A memory that sticks out for me is watching a 100 cap Damien Duff in the Showgrounds barely able to jog during a match because he was completely crocked and his career was clearly over.

Dundalk have Zahibo, a player that was an MLS all star 2 years ago, looks like he wouldn't get a game in the MSL now.

A lot changes in a season or two in football and the league doesn't need to become a retirement home for former Ireland Internationals looking to play a bit of ball in their spare time.
