I think he'd fit in well in that dressing room.

Maybe not at the moment tho

Sorry for the Sun link :(

    https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/scottish-news/7309689/anthony-stokes-hunted-cops-warrant/
Sheriff Allan McKay issued a warrant for his arrest and said he did not think Stokes would return unless forced to do so by authorities.

Probably too busy getting "rehabilitated" at Bluebell Utd

    He's all shook up
Mm mm mm, mm, yay, yay, yay

Shields' final game for Dundalk tonight. Hopefully he gets a testimonial so that the fans can give him a proper goodbye. A legend of a player, one of the best the league has seen.

Agreed, whole career turned around when Kenny took over and kept him after the disastrous McCaffery era

Is he really the type you want to be bringing into your dressing room? no doubting his ability but his behaviour/attitude over recent years hasnt been good

Would be a very bad option for alot of reason.
Rovers already have quite an ageing squad. They need more youth and pace in attack

Greene, Gaffney, Finn, Towell (30 in July), McCann all over 30 . Bringing in Stokes will probably just mean a younger play won't get any many chances.

Hes not exactly a great role model for their professional academy which they like to frequently mention is the only one in this country.

I'd like to see Brandon Kavanagh get a chance. Dean Williams seems like he needs to try first division football for a few years. That may be is his ceiling but he is still young

Fairly close on the honours list actually

    Paul Osam honours:
6 League of Ireland Premier Divisions
    2 League of Ireland Cup

    Chris Shields honours:
5 League of Ireland Premier Divisions
    3 FAI Cups
    3 League of Ireland Cups
    3 President's Cups
    1Leinster Senior Cup

Osam has only won 5 premier divisions

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,254 ✭✭✭joeysoap

Shieldsy was better. 2 league +3 cup runner ups. (And If - big if - the league had gone 4 more games in 2017 or Seanie had departed in earlier .....??or Chris wasn’t suspended for the 2019 cup
final.......or Fats who scored the winner in 2018 wasn’t also missing. And in 2016 if dundalk weren’t in St. Petersburg on thursday before the cup final....

Lot of talk now about Georgie Kelly. I honestly thought he scored in that final in the last minute of extra time. Then Manus brought off that save. The rest is history.

Sad day for the league imo. With Gartland also absent it is the end of an era for Dundalk

More like the Dundalk of old, Parkhouse has kept Derry in it

    The sending off :D

The commentators are hilariously awful, in this 24 second clip he gets his name wrong a few times. These making RTE look like pros and they have teamsheets and the players have names on their jerseys :pac::pac::pac:

Pat's would do well to earn a point if the second half continues like the first.

First shels game for my son and he is given a pair of gloves. Didn’t see who gave them to him but hes absolutely buzzing.

Good game aswell, shels deserve the lead, playing well. Great buzz here…. come on shels .

End of an era there with Shields :(

On a better note far better and organized performance with Dundalk there. Abibi had a decent game so hopefully he'll carry that form into the Euro games

Pleased with how the lads battled for the draw. Waterford only had 2 decent chances in the 2nd half, the same number as us. If only Billy King had finished his chance and he really should have, I know it was something of a snapshot but he still had a bit more time to compose himself. Benson did an excellent job hassling the player in possession and made some very good interceptions and runs with the ball.

Some woeful referring in the second half when the Waterford player fouled Smith in the 85th minute. If Lewis was sent off in the 1st half for his foul, then there's no way whatsoever that the Waterford's player punishment should be different. He's the last man back and there's no chance of any cover from the other Waterford players. Can't use clumsiness from the Waterford player as an excuse.

    LOI Referees >>> VAR

Waterford are shocking can see why they are second bottom but accoridng to the commentators that was the sternest test we had all season, no Rovers beating us at home and Sligo away were......and they got in an "Alfie Burns" towards the end.

Greatest league in the world tbh

Disappointed not to take three points against Pat's, who got a good away point in the circumstances tonight with ten men for most of the game.

That said, both teams had chances to win the game - Brian Murphy made a couple of great saves.

Waterford will stay up if they continue in this vain, Bircham has been a breath of fresh air since he arrived.

Don't think either penalty was one at Tallaght but running at/pressing the left side of Rovers defence between left back and left CB continues to bear fruit. Scales needs dropping.

Goals conceded there: Harps at home, Longford at home, Sligo at home, Pats away, Drogheda home, arguably the winner in Dundalk too.

Same time of goal too as Bohs and Derry, mostly within 15 minutes after half time.

I would have to think not. So much ground to make up after that dreadful start. Even a win tomorrow which would be a superb result would not have me believing.

Wait til you see the ref overrule his linesman for Longford's goal tonight.... Wasn't even remotely close.
We still had enough chances to win it... Still...

I watched a replay of that and it was tricky to tell if the Longford or Harps player headed it back

I thought the defenders were reluctant to use him.hoofed the ball into touch when they had the choice. The Derry goal was dire, but for once were they two up, so they still had something to defend. Played well though and deserved the win. Gartside, particularly in the first half, kept Derry in it. We still need a keeper.

They were on about a great save he made last week. :pac: it was kicked straight at him, it just happened to hit off his foot.

When confidence is zip, like a striker, if its off their backside so be it as save is a save and a goal a goal, Dundalk fans would take that every time if it means nabbing points

The league really is muck this season. Bohs looked brilliant recently and now tonight they are shocking. :D

On the flip side this XI wasn't good in Derry and both Drogheda & Pats embarrassed us the week before that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,369 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

How is Bastien Hery not getting a game in this Bohs midfield? Is he still injured but put on the bench for some reason? 4 subs made so far tonight but he's till on the bench. Really odd situation.

Dead right. Dundalk used to be at that. Johnny Kenny the best young player in the league.

Nice having a manager in charge who shows faith in his young players instead of entertaining the idea of signing over the hill criminals :)

6 academy players in the starting XI tonight. Great to see.

Anthony Stokes is on trial (at Shams. Not court this time)

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/crime-and-law/courts/high-court/anthony-stokes-ordered-to-pay-230-000-to-elvis-impersonator-1.2978147?mode=amp

He never actually paid the guy the money either (as of 12 months ago) despite two court orders. Not sure why he isn't behind bars tbh.

Yeah I probably should have made that clearer! I was chatting with a Shams fan earlier and mentioned the 6 starting academy graduates and he was talking about how few players Bradley has taken from the famed academy and nurtured into first team regulars instead opting to spend money on proven players, but reading it back now my post was a bit vague :D

Should have brought on Emakhu and Williams for Scales and Gaffney last night. We haven’t fired all season but still level at the top. I can’t overstate how big a loss Seán Kavanagh is at left wingback or Dylan Watts is in midfield.

How good could Johnny Kenny be? Haven't seen much of him bar two games at the start of the season, but he seems to be doing very well for a lad who just turned 18. Saw tonight that it was the youngest hat trick in the league in about 75 years.

3 mini leagues, top 3, one of which will be champions. Bohs, drogheda, Dundalk and Derry in the mix for 4th spot. Finn Harps and Waterford for the playoff spot. Longford to be relegated. All imo of course.

Funny old league. Bohs beat Dundalk twice but only lead Dundalk by 3 points Dundalk beat drogheda twice but still trail them, longford drew with Dundalk twice but still are well bottom. And Rovers won the league after 18 matches last year, well actually a lot less but we played 18. Who will it be this year Rovers Rovers or pats. Towell could yet be the decider.
