Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Mark Byrne that plays for Gillingham put up a tweet saying that he won't be renewing his contract and that he is coming back for a new challenge in Ireland, only aged 31 or 32, central midfielder from Dublin, wonder who he is signing for?

He is from Kilnamanagh, which would make him a natural for Rovers, but personally I don’t think so ( but I have been wrong before)

Injury prone, mightn’t get a club

I'm not entirely sure but I do remember that we offered Joe Gamble €4,000 a week in 2008.

In my mind, it was that we offered Gamble €3,500 and he turned us down to stay with Cork for around €500 a week less, I could be wrong though since it's a while back.

It was reported in the press that Pats were paying Michael Keane €3,200 a week when he was sacked. He took a case and it ended with the club having to pay up the remaining 18 months of his contract.

What's the average wage now? And who's the highest earner in the league? Jack Byrne, I'm guessing..

Would we all not like to have both the coefficients & wage bills of the 2000s back, this time, however, done in a sustainable way. Which, rightly or wrongly, Kerr is suggesting is achievable via an AIL, and the commercial value of such a venture.

Some of us would prefer a league of sustainable clubs, built primarily on solid fanbases rather than "commercial value of a venture".

It's absolutely insane to apply capitalist theory to football, for obvious reasons. Football clubs are fundamentally built to last, unlike businesses which are indoctrinated to grow until taken over or bust.
Some posters here don't want the league to change, to remain as is, which is their prerogative of course.

Some posters here like to misrepresent the viewpoints of others and incorrectly speak on their behalf, which is an obnoxious thing to do of course.
Football in Ireland has the potential to grow massively, it just needs a shot in the arm.

"A shot in the arm" is empty rhetoric, that doesn't build a football club.

One of the biggest problems with the debate about the future of the LOI is that it is often led by ex-managers and ex-mercenaries who haven't a fùcking clue nor an interest in how to build a sustainable club or league. Many of them have no concept of the mindset of a supporter, because they've never been one.

Where does this league of sustainable clubs built primarily on solid fanbases actually exist? Every league inherently has teams of haves and have nots.

Should Rovers/Pats/Dundalk etc turn down investors?

Another useless ex-Shels player to keep Boccer some company in the slammer, heard a serious story about him before he signed for us 2014, thankfully only lasted half a season and he was never seen in the LOI again. It never ceases to amaze me how so many LOI managers sign these players without ringing around some of their contacts in the league to suss out the red flags

And the other LSL manager, that guy has always been scum and that club is on the same level

They are few and far between, which helps to explain why the sport of football is a financial basket case.

The clubs in the LOI can choose the Lucid ideology; to copy the EPL on a much smaller scale and go down the route of private investment, rampant commercialisation and marketing, football via technology, etc.. Even if it "worked" and a bunch of casual customers jumped on the bandwagon for a while, it would be soulless and unsustainable.

The ideology at the other end of the spectrum involves building football clubs around their supporters; through memberships and season tickets. That takes time and effort, to invite football fans from your city into your club and convert them for life, which is why some clubs reject it for a quick gamble instead.

It seems a bit strange to find a number of LOI football fans on the internet who favour the first scenario, until you realise over time that many of them are not active supporters in the real world.

This was your go-to line when the excessive inequality in the league was coming to the fore during the restart negotiations. It sounds like something an apologist for capitalism would say, but either way it looks out of place beside the question you asked.
    dfx- wrote: »

Depends on their circumstances, what they stand for as clubs and what they think about the motives of an investor.

Should a football club automatically accept investment? Absolutely not, only a fool would take money from a stranger without asking the obvious question.

I assume if it's determined that Waterford were not quarantining players/coaches as required and that led to their COVID scare then Sligo Rovers will be awarded 3 points for the game they refused to travel to. Or will the FAI just bury their head in the sand as always.

In Scotland, Aberdeen are being forced to play without 8 because those 8 are out due to their own stupidity.

By all means give Waterford a point deduction if they broke protocol but you cant give Sligo 3 points when there is only 18 games in the season. What if Sligo stayed up by 2 points above the last team. There would be war!

I think if Waterford lied in order to get the Sligo game postponed*, then Sligo should be given a walk over...

*which i wouldn't be surprised with, sure this is a club who were going "bust" a few seasons back, clubs all over the league had bucket collections for them...They then go and sign Boccer Bayly

    Don't agree with that decision.

Teams and players are well aware of the rules. If there is indisputable evidence they have blatantly broken those rules and the game cannot go ahead due to that then it should be an automatic 3-0 loss. Obviously there may be situations where there is a COVID outbreak despite everyone doing things right, or a situation where there's no evidence of any wrongdoing. This isn't one of those situations though. The club has admitted that 8 players were out at a nightclub.

The scottish goverment postponed the game not the SPFL.

I dont see why it is not going ahead.

If they breached quarantine restrictions and are losing games as a result, we’d be expecting a 3 nil win from last Saturday too though, so it’s a big can of worms to be opening.

My post was in regards to if they lied about CoVid19 in order to get a game postponed...

But if their players are breaking the rules, and it leads to them not being able to fulfill fixtures i do think a walk over is the only recourse...

The Dr resigning is very telling, obviously not happy with the club's handling of the current situation

Yep having some sound issues, commentary seems to be gone completely for me now. 1-0 Bohs, good cross in by Breslin and Grant heads in at the far post.

Was that team news from Bohs earlier legit? It said Mandroiu is missing (gargled)

Conor Davis injured and Reyon Dillon gone so basically none other than these 3 signings. Cian Murphy of U19s played up front vs Bohs.
