Just for a laugh, the GFS snow chart for tea time today (Mortalero might feel a bit left out here...!)

    YAYYYYYY thank you Kermit 😀

Pretty good particularly this evening and overnight. Hard to be specific in showery regimes but you will get something....how much? Dunno.

The Euro4 will have avalanches here I say.

Plenty more snow melt here overnight, only really a covering left on the grass now.

Showers don't seem to be packing a punch at all so far, drizzle here at the moment and radar looks messy with no real heavy showers or hail cores. Presumably to pick up in intensity later

That roads lethal when it hails, just outside dromoland past the fairy tree and for around 2 miles it gets a cold dip woooooo

The southwest will be closest to the colder air today - funnily enough. The northwest coastal counties (particularly on coasts) always vulnerable to slightly milder air compared to the rest of the country.

The snow level is falling and will continue to fall through the day, this evening and overnight are the best opportunities for snow arguably of the year so far.

Looks like Co Clare will get a dump of something or other.

Last one from me, by contrast to the GFS and Euro 04 (the latter of which is predicting snow right now in Cork to put its predictions in context), Aperge has no snow except high ground today or tomorrow (though it does seem to have some lower level snow as part of that organised system in the south tomorrow night), Hirlam is quite hopeful for snow lovers, ICON going for snow too but has showers confined to the coast only, Hirlam is reasonably positive for snow lovers and Arome (to the extent it shows Ireland) has snow but few enough showers.

By Irish standards, thats a rockin' forecast! Realistically, we need to add in our experience to these model predictions. I'd say for most of us its probably a 40% shot we will get lying snow for, say, an hour or more. In fact Met E, who know a helluva lot more than the rest of us are still not convinced on low level snow looking at their forecasts - but even they sound a bit more optimistic on snow chances than they were.

One positive is that usually these events "downgrade" in the day leading up to it. This one seems to me to have upgraded. Hopefully that continues (and early observations are encouraging). Momentum is on our side!

Yea I think behind this band of showers/cloud we will be into the true Polar air and most showers of hail, sleet and snow thereafter.

Be interesting to see if any land convection today to aid the showers commute from west to east, we are at the time of year now that land-based convection begins,

Just home from school run and hailstone shower turned to a wintry mix and now snow. Its sticking and no end in sight

A more organised feature moving in from the west it should maintain its intensity, showers of ice pellets and hail most likely. Colder uppers moving in during the day with snow almost everywhere. Better chances of it settling would be late during the afternoon.

Are you on higher ground there?

The window is narrowing for snow has to be this week or Winter 2020/21 and as always what was a full week last week is now less and less.

At least its snowing on net weather radar even if it's not in real life

It will not be until later this evening, tonight and Wednesday morning before we see the real snow risk. Much of the shower's will be of rain, sleet and hail today and turning increasing to snow by tonight for parts of the northwest west and southwest particularly inland away from the coasts.

Showers turning more to hail and graupel now in Tralee, very dark skies when they pass over.

Would be. I am lower down and nearer the coast. Rain, then sleet and now back to rain again. Looks like it is clearing for now. NW Clare

We are 136m asl . Snow has stopped 5+ mins.
Lisdoonvarna town would be lower but they also had snow showers.

Just had a shower in cork city. Was changing between sleet and snow the entire time

GFS continues to throw this occlusion north tomorrow night. Potentially disruptive snowfall across Leinster and Munster.

Heavy snow shower. I suppose once the colder upper air gets in the dinner plate snowflakes will
    disappear.

Yes, dinner plate snow is awesome but also the best sign of marginality.

Sure it has to keep precipitating or we wont be flooded out.

It seems the colder air has arrived in the Southwest but not yet other areas. Rain and sleet here. When colder air comes the showers will be more scattered so a dusting probably

Even on the satellite the cold sector seems to be favouring the South. Northern half may have to wait until later

Snow in East Clare. Started as rain then sleet then proper snow for past half an hour. Settled well apart from tarmac areas.
