You really are not missing out Danno. These showers are pure, miserable scutter.

'Scuttered showers' should be used in official forecasts for days like this.

    New Moon

Anything for D4 and surrounding areas tonight??

No it doesn't look likely. Maybe higher areas such as the Dublin Mountain but Dublin overall will be lucky and not have any snow. Will be cold though

Well today's event has been identical to the previous 2 events. Little lying snow away from mountains. A slushy mess with even frost unlikely with the wind!!
Tomorrow night still holds interest though it's very marginal!

Been a non event for snow in Galway disappointed considering how promising the forecast was.

Fairly heavy shower of snow again, but not sticking. It looks like Met Eireann maybe right that accumulations of snow will be confined to high ground.

A few flakes of dandruff floating around here in south Dublin from that little pinhead shower. We are probably just the right side of marginal in the east but of course getting any worthwhile precip is a major struggle as always. Probably a dusting of icing sugar on higher ground by morning and not much else.

Had the first proper bit of snow for a few minutes but turned back to a slobbery sleet again. Turning a little more snowy again but real marginal stuff overall.

    Kermits Silent, piss poor day

Satellite precipitation rate image shows the heaviest convection well off to the northwest, where the core of coldest 500 hPa air is. No real chance of that reaching us, however, as warmer air at that level will cut off that convection after midnight. Window is narrowing all the while now. Just relaying on some surface cooling to develop a cold surface layer to tip the balance towards snow, but I wouldn't be holding out for much.

Well this is disappointing so far. It's absolutely vile out currently in Castlebar - piercing wind chill with intermittent squally showers of freezing rain, morphing to hail, briefly snow and back to rain again usually.

    I'm here :D

Showers are mostly hugging the western counties of the country, we need a slightly more favorable wind direction to get them inland where snow is always more likely.

Perhaps later in the night. Agree with the poster on the shower trajectory. We need a nudge there because for Dublin the land track is too long.

I agree it's a little disappointing so far but that's how the cookie crumbles. Looks good for western counties though overall. I'm hoping we will sneak in some snow showers later in the night further east.

    Cold night ahead regardless.

This is a complete anti climate.

    Was relying on snow tonight

Now it's gone from 1.3c to 2.7c and heavy rain

When even Kermit the Frog doesn't mean snow you know you should have got up Sunday night

Still February 29th will be an all out blizzard Thank God.

The showers are mostly light sleety rain, as others have said even if something does make it across the country its just not worth the wait.

Wouldn't be surprised to wake up to a patchy dusting here tomorrow but as usual with westerlies it'll melt as soon as the sun comes up so just not worth the effort

Complete anti climate..... Very amusing auto correct.

Regarding that you were relying on snow tonight, may I ask why you were relying on snow?

Weather wise, plenty of precipitation heading into the Midlands. Will it survive to Eastern areas though!?!

We had some snow showers this evening, then hard freezing for a time and snow showers again, East Cavan

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,755 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

Any rain is nearer west coasts generally, inland is healthy enough for snow.

    Precip making proper inroads now.

Quite heavy snow in mid-Limerick but turned sleety even with temps below 1 degree....

Good snow here now in Roscommon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,951 ✭✭✭JanuarySnowstor

While we all watch events tonight worth noting tonight's gfs and icon (18z) give a red warning type storm on Saturday!! Lots going on with somewhere likely to get a dump of snow also tomorrow.
On rte's main weather tonight they kinda skipped over tomorrow night. I can see why because anything could happen...

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,913 ✭✭✭Danno

A mix of drizzle, sleet and snow in a driving west wind. Totally mank in south Laois. 1.6c. The Slieve Blooms had a generous coat of white this evening after 4pm.

Good drop of snow falling in athlone

Plenty of snow showers in Waterford City this evening but all too wet to stick to saturated ground. Showers not heavy enough and Dew Points too high.
