Quitting job and holidays??

    Hi all,

    I would like to quit my job and do some travelling. I am wondering how do I go about getting holiday pay after I finish work, is this possible?? Would be great to get paid for a week or 2 after finishing up.

    Or is it possible to take holidays for the last week or 2 of working before my official finishing date?? So I essentially finish early but keep getting paid till my finishing date.

    I really don't know how to go about this, would love some opinions please.

    You would need to discuss this with your employer.

    If you accrued enough annual leave by agreeement you might be able to use these as your last two weeks in the company and get paid. Or if you work up the holidays they could be paid to you wow you leave along with last wages as a lump sum.

    But it needs the agreement of the employer.

    I'm a full time employee and holidays are worked up from January so does that mean I get 1.66 days per month worked?

    Can they refuse to pay the holidays I have worked up if I quit?

    I'm pretty sure my contract says I need to give 4 weeks notice which I will doing, I will prob give them more than this actually.

    is there any issues giving 8 weeks notice?? Do I still accrue holidays after I give my notice??

    Yes: depending on the job, they may choose to put you on gardening leave for your notice period. In which case, you'd lose out the last 4 weeks pay.

    Just give the contractually required notice.

    Be careful about giving more notice than you need to - if they decided to reduce shift hours, or try to introduce unfavourable conditions, you’d be top of their list as they wouldn’t care about you because they know you’re leaving.

    then contact your payroll person directly and ask them if they can pay your holidays in the week(s) after your final week worked.
    Explain why you want it. no reason why they can't do it. you're not going to another job so it doesn't mess up your taxes.

    You earn holidays right up until your last day and they cannot not pay you for them.
    There is no reason why you should include your holidays in your notice period.Say you had a weeks holidays due. would you not prefer to work four weeks and have the pay plus your weeks holiday money for your travelling pot?
    Also, check your contract for your notice period. 4 weeks is a lot, unless you are in a specialised position and they need time to find your replacement.

    Lots of options are “possible” but it depends on the company and probably more so your relationship with the company.

    Talking to them is the best solution.

    There is also the option to get maybe a Revolut e-card and start putting over money now each week and then hand in your notice when you feel you have enough.

    Nope. I've had it for a non management job where they just wanted me off-site ASAP.

    Very common for sales roles too.

    If its a decent company there shouldn't be any issues. Payroll will work out exactly what your owed including the 3-4 holiday days you have acquired from January.

    With regards handing in your notice its at the discretion of your employer whether they will just you go immediately or want to retain you for the month. It happens but nearly all will let you work out your notice according to whats in your contract.

    The OP would be paid by the employer for any gardening leave. In any case gardening leave is irrelevant to the OP's query.

    If it is a reputable company then they will work with you to decide on holidays or pay in lieu. If they require you badly then they might prefer to pay you holiday pay at the end while if not they might ask you to ensure you take all the holidays before leaving. Only way to know is to talk to them
