I would take that with a pinch of salt...how many unsubstantiated stories about cases have been posted here ffs...it's just silly at this stage

I just can't help myself refreshing this thread - it's oddly addictive.

I got texted that yesterday the 26th, so either they kept it very under wraps for a day, or it's horsecrap.

Be thankful for that, very thankful :P

What you probably miss every 30 posts

    - I can’t believe they are not screening people at airports
    - I cannot believe how unprepared the HSE is and what a balls they made of this
    - it’s 2% death rate
    - no it’s .01%
    - More people die from the flu
    - someone then will follow up with flu infection rate vs Coronavirus infection rate to counter this point
    - someone making a joke about it
    - someone make a big deal about x new infections in country x
    - someone giving out because it’s not being taken seriously enough here
    - someone giving out because it’s being taken too seriously

    Avoid like the coronavirus surely.

You won't get any of those from the scaremongers on here. Come on now!

Begs the question then doesn’t it. What can we actually do to stop it?

Have a nurse on each incoming flight taken saliva samples of all passengers. Test samples and then notify any positive confirmed passenger.

No thanks. I'm enjoying keeping up to date on here.

Yeah i'll be happy when my elderly parents and friend with medical issues catch it

Go have a rest will ya, your heads wobbling a tad.

Go look after them rather than this.
It would do more good. For them at least

The only ones talking common sense are the trolls on this thread. Put airports on lockdown for a virus with a mortality rate similar to the flu, made up cases in hotels that dont exist. No regard for the economy.
I think in years to come this thread will be legendary and will provide psychology lectures with great material on population control.
God help us, not for the virus but the general population who exist and have a platform to communicate total horse@##$
I’m guilty of trolling myself which is a childish reaction to the thread in general, but this thread is ridiculous.
Is it actually social media that causes this type of reaction to a problem that hasn’t actually arisen in this country? If 200 people had died in the ROI this thread would still be an overreaction, as of yet no confirmed case!!!
Although that brother of mine isn’t well . .

Cases at the airport as well.
    Any of evidence at all?
Or absolutely none like your other posts of cases in Ireland?

Very scary I must say. Was supposed to be going out on Saturday night to an Italian restaurant but we decided to cancel. You just never know who might have just come back from Italy in there.

    Can’t be serious.
You may as well steer clear of the Chinese aswell if that’s the case

It is the most amazing thread on Boards ever imho. It will provide superb analysis for some PhD student in years to come.
It does make me think that humanity has run it's course on this earth though. I would really love to know the ages of some of the posters

Have you looked at the coronavirus sub reddit? It makes this thread look like an extremely tame and mature discussion by comparison

Some good news for those who were worried about this :

"WORLD RUGBY HAS confirmed that if the Ireland-Italy game is never played then it will have no impact on their ranking points system, which determines the seedings for the 2023 World Cup."

This is NOT fake news. Link and all :

Just for a bit of perspective, even when the disease is confirmed in ROI, the probability of you actually getting it are very low. Even if you do get it, the probability of actually dying is also very low.

You think you and the trolls are talking sense? You think you are the one with a handle on it?
A case fatality rate of between 2% to 4% rivals and even exceeds that of the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic, which is estimated to have killed upwards of 50 million people. Even a case fatality rate of 0.7% — which means 7 out of every 1,000 infected people would die — is sobering. It is seven times the fatality rate for seasonal flu, which is estimated to kill between 290,000 and 650,000 people a year globally.

For onlookers we are in the quiet phase before Asia opens in an hour and another day of carnage begins with the overnight reports from countries there.

    Patience.

Don't doubt that there will be cases here but posts like that with specific advanced warnings from randomers are definitely horsecrap.

That is not feasible let's be honest.
Is anyone else in the world doing that?!
Our resources are fairly stretched in general as it is

As a journalist, I have to say that I am shocked at the lack of evidence to back up claims. What's worse is this new online publication WhatsApp which is worse than the Daily Fail.

27th March / That's now 16 cases of Corona in the UK, with zero people affected here (yet)!!!!

Give it another week or ten days and things may very well change here :-(

Boards is the only social media I use. I was on Facebook and LinkedIn years ago but I gave them up as a bad job.

I hear it’s like having a runny nose and that the flu is 200000% worse.

Also there’s a media blackout because all of Donegal has it now.

No source of course, just wait and see.
